We mostly try to respond to comments and questions as they pop up in email, the comments section, on Facebook and even Instagram, but there are always a few that get asked so many times that we feel like we should make an official declaration.  And lately, I’d say in the last month or so, these five questions have been real popular. You asked:

1. How’s Greta’s carpet? Did you ever get the paint out? Was it covered under warranty?

First, if you’re thinking, Paint? Carpet?! Whaaaa??–Read this.  And no.  And no, again.  The carpet still looks exactly like it did 5 hours after the incident.  Slightly pink in spots.  Because the carpet is under a lifetime stain warranty, my fingers were crossed that there would be something that could be done.  Afterall, it had been only a year since we had the carpet installed. Unfortunately, I spent hours on the phone with customer service at Home Depot and the carpet people they use and it basically came down to if we don’t get the carpets professionally cleaned every 6 months (we don’t), and have proof, the warranty is no longer valid. Womp. Woommp. So, now we’re living with it and I don’t know what the carpet future holds in that room.

2. Are you done with the kitchen? What about the tile!?

We’re not done with the kitchen, we have a large amount of backsplash to install. We decided on the Hampton Carrara Subway Tile, and it has been on back-order. But! We have heard from the sweet people from The Tile Shop and we should have it beginning of June (so, any day!) and then we can get to tiling and wrap that room up. So excited!

3.  What about filling and planting those garden beds?

Ahh, the magic question.  The garden is really looming over us right now because, eeks, time is ticking.  We haven’t planted yet but learned that we have until mid-June in our area to get some seeds in the ground, which we’re grateful for. The weather has thwarted almost all of our outdoor projects lately and I am directing a girls camp next week that has been taking a lot of my attention, but as soon as I wrap that up–the plan is to get those seeds in the ground and cross our fingers.  We received a ton of great advice in the comments of this post and can’t wait to implement some of them.

4. How’s the new Ikea rug holding up under the dining table?

Shoot I loved that thing. So much, I stored it away last week.  It might find its way to the guest room or storage or craigslist, but for sure, a rug in the dining room with a three year old is just asking for it.

5. Is there any way we can get Chris’s recipes in a legit recipe format?

Chris is working on a way for you to download a pdf through a link. Sit tight!

What do you think?

  1. Hi! I’m a food blogger (and a fan of CLJ) and the Easy Recipe plugin was a big help for me. You can see it in action on my page.

  2. As Val as already mentioned, go the home and contents insurance option. I had a carpet v’s paint incident a couple of years ago and it was no drama to claim. New carpet, bashful home owner…win win.

  3. I understand the rug thing, I am so scared to put one down in my dinning area because food drops and drinks spill at least once a day, the thought of spaghetti sauce makes me cringe. (I guess that’s just life with children).
Good luck with the garden I just got mine started and I just cant wait to eat them up.

I’m curious what you guys have done with the ceiling in the kitchen since the lights were changed around?

  5. Oh I got so excited when I saw pink carpet stains… My puppy got hold of a bottle of pepto bismol, which I think says it all! Too bad you couldn’t get it out either. If ever I manage, I’ll be sure to let you know!

It seems lots of people are asking for a different recipe format. I just wanted to say I like the way he’s been presenting his recipes. It’s all very loose and attainable. Thanks for the great dinner ideas!

  8. Val says:

I don’t know if it would be worth it to you, but the carpet would be covered under your homeowner’s insurance. If your deductible is high or you don’t want a claim on file, it wouldn’t be worth it, but you might want to give your agent a call.

  9. Jennifer L says:

There’s a great plugin called ZipList that makes it printable and SEO friendly, it’s used by a bunch of food bloggers that I read. I plan to implement it soon! http://get.ziplist.com/partner-with-ziplist/many-ways-to-integrate/wordpress-recipe-plugin/

    • Bummer, we run on Blogger. We’ll have to look for something like this, though. Thanks Jennifer!

    • Jennifer L says:

Wow I didn’t know you could have Blogger unbranded (unbloggerized) sites! I had assumed you were using WordPress! I’m sorry, I wouldn’t have recommended it otherwise. They do have partner buttons, but it’s not the same. I hope you find something!

  10. yay about a printable recipe! Those raised beds are gorgeous!!! I can’t wait to see them full of yummy things!

A reader recently asked me if I’m starting to fully embrace traditional style and whether we still consider our house to be a “modern Colonial” and why. It was a really great question and so timely — I had really just been thinking about my approach to this home and how my style has changed […]
