Befores, afters, mood boards, plans, failures, wins. We’ve done a lot of projects, and they’re all here.

We have a long-standing relationship with DIY, and love rolling our sleeves up and making it happen.

Even when you don’t want to rip down a wall, you can make that space in your home better. Right now.

I took my computer in to get fixed yesterday and they said it wouldn’t be done until Friday evening.  Wah Wahhhh.  So while blogging isn’t easy without my computer, I didn’t want the week to end without giving you a sneak peek at our countertops.

After a lot of research on which wood countertops would work best for our kitchen (Ikea didn’t have butcher block wide and long enough for the peninsula) we found Craft Art and fell for their solid Walnut “homeowner diy“edge style countertops. The photo above is how they look when they arrive (the underside).  The DIY part comes in with cutting down to the right size, sanding, and sealing them with a few coats of Waterlox–which will really make the rich walnut color come out.

We are busy working on cutting them down to the right size and installing them right now and will have photos for you on Monday–and hopefully a computer to blog on, too. In the meantime, feel free to follow along on Instagram (@chrislovesjulia) where I’ll keep you in the loop on our progress.

What is the exact name of these countertops? I love them and want to order them. I did see black walnut but I was not sure it that was it or not looked to dark. Thanks so much and it looks great!

How much were the countertops? Looks great!

  4. Just curious, how did your countertop paint hold up for a year and a half?

  5. Patty says:

Hey. The good news is… if you get halfway done… and change your mind… KILLER stage material. Hook up the mics.

  6. Callie says:

They look so gorgeous and thick and chunky! What a great cross between professional and DIY!!

  7. OMG! OMG! I cannot wait to see how they turn out!!

A reader recently asked me if I’m starting to fully embrace traditional style and whether we still consider our house to be a “modern Colonial” and why. It was a really great question and so timely — I had really just been thinking about my approach to this home and how my style has changed […]
