While at Home Depot, we also found ourselves in the lighting department and picked up a new light for the room. Nothing was terribly wrong with the other one, other than it just wasn’t our style. We have learned that the right lighting can do wonders in transforming a room and our previous light was just….meh:
Because the room is long and narrow, we wanted a light that would help define different areas and really illuminate the whole room. Track lighting was the perfect solution:
A little nontraditional in the laundry room, but turns out, it was just the look we were going for. The three lights are currently directed at the sink/vanity, wall where some very large art is going to hide all those cords, and the laundry area.
Here’s how the room looks now–which is very similar to the before, but, we have lots of big plans on a small budget to get this room guest ready before the party. Stay tuned, friends.
Our wood grain Shaker cabinet fronts were designed for busy, high-traffic homes like ours. Clad with durable textured thermofoils, this line is compatible with Sektion, Akurum, Godmorgon, and Besta cabinets from IKEA. It's the perfect, practical way to add the warmth of wood to all the rooms of your home.
We have teamed up with Loloi to create a line of rugs that are as affordable as they are beautiful. This collection houses a great mix of traditional and modern rugs, in cottage-y colorways, as well as vintage-inspired beauties that you’ll want to roll out in every room.
We partnered with Stuga on a line of hardwood floors — The Ingrid is really livable, and the color is very neutral. It doesn’t lean warm or cool, it’s that just right in-between. We have really loved putting it everywhere in our house. It’s the best jumping-off point for design, no matter your interior style. In addition to being beautiful, Ingrid is really durable — we have three kids, and we always have a home construction project going on. Ingrid stands up to it all.

A reader recently asked me if I’m starting to fully embrace traditional style and whether we still consider our house to be a “modern Colonial” and why. It was a really great question and so timely — I had really just been thinking about my approach to this home and how my style has changed […]

Yikes! That’s a LOT of blue in a BAD way. Good call on the track lighting. I love it. It’s nice and bright. Are you going to paint? Please keep the rag-rolled walls…(my eyes just rolled in the back of my head).
YOU, my friend, are on the right track. I hadn’t thought of putting a shower curtain up–but we do have plans to move the washer and dryer! :)
wow that toilet seat looks so much better, and the lighting too. I have to admit, I’ve never seen a laundry room inside a bathroom before haha.
i totally just had an idea for you though… if you haven’t already thought of it. What if you were to move the washer/dryer to the back wall (where the mantle thing is) and stick up a shower curtain rod and curtain in front of it? It would hide the washer/dryer and appear as if it was an actual bathroom, with a bathtub behind it. guests wouldn’t even know unless they moved the curtain ;) it would be a cheap and easy fix :)

That bathroom….oooo man. This might be worse than the basement. At least the basement was a total facelift after paint…that bathroom has SO many problems!!! Geez! I can’t WAIT to see the after. Get it girl.
HAHAHAHA!!! Perfect description. Oh geez.
This room is seriously business up top and a party on the bottom. Haha. Not QUITE a mullet bathroom but close. Good luck!
