Chris and I had a few different ideas of how we wanted to spend our long weekend. I saw us painting the kitchen cabinets and he saw us just chillin’ and barbecuing. So we compromised. I tackled a large painting for our dining room wall and he helped me build the frame and stretch the canvas over it. And the rest of the time we plan on relaxing and grilling every meal.
You caught a little preview of my huge, orange-y painting in this post–but I’m here to show you the end results. Here she is in all of her shimmery glory:
I wish this painting always caught the light like that so the gold and champagne metallic paint would reflect the light and create the illusion of a camera trying to focus through the sun. But alas, my house isn’t perfectly lit, especially not the wall in the dining room. Sometimes just a few circles get highlighted and that’s okay, too. It changes throughout the day and it makes for a very entertaining painting for our home.
I got the idea for this painting from a piece of paper that would have been entirely too small for the space. Brushstrokes and 87″ of canvas definitely make that little inspiration mine-all-mine and a very happy girl and perfect fit for the wall in the dining room.
We love how it mimics our big round light fixture. It’s shimmery. And vibrant. And large, but not too busy that it takes away from our oversized canvas in the living room. It plays pretty nice with the gold grid of frames in there, too.
So that was my low-key weekend project that I smiled all the way through. Today we have some fun shopping planned, a trip to the splash park, a family photo sesh, and a bbq and fireworks with club cul-de-sac tonight.
Happy 4th to you all and an extra happy holiday to Artsy Nina for winning that “Magic Carpet” you all took around the world in our giveaway. You definitely gave me the travel bug, friends.
Our wood grain Shaker cabinet fronts were designed for busy, high-traffic homes like ours. Clad with durable textured thermofoils, this line is compatible with Sektion, Akurum, Godmorgon, and Besta cabinets from IKEA. It's the perfect, practical way to add the warmth of wood to all the rooms of your home.
We have teamed up with Loloi to create a line of rugs that are as affordable as they are beautiful. This collection houses a great mix of traditional and modern rugs, in cottage-y colorways, as well as vintage-inspired beauties that you’ll want to roll out in every room.
We partnered with Stuga on a line of hardwood floors — The Ingrid is really livable, and the color is very neutral. It doesn’t lean warm or cool, it’s that just right in-between. We have really loved putting it everywhere in our house. It’s the best jumping-off point for design, no matter your interior style. In addition to being beautiful, Ingrid is really durable — we have three kids, and we always have a home construction project going on. Ingrid stands up to it all.

A reader recently asked me if I’m starting to fully embrace traditional style and whether we still consider our house to be a “modern Colonial” and why. It was a really great question and so timely — I had really just been thinking about my approach to this home and how my style has changed […]
