Nothing huge, but much bigger than what we had at our apartment, so we were actually thrilled that we could go IN our closet and there was even a light in it!  Before I started emptying out all of the garbage bags and suitcases we transported our clothes in, Chris was already conjuring up plans to make our closet better and more functional.  When you ask Chris what his design aesthetic is, he’ll respond every time:  Functional.  Although the closet is very standard, there was a ton of wasted space.  Namely, about 3 feet above the bar where you hang clothes and no other storage options, which means we would be hanging up all of our jeans and t-shirts, too.  Don’t even get Chris started on putting his t-shirts on a hanger, the thought of a stretched out neckline makes him cringe.  

So, first, he moved the current bars up about 2 feet.  It is still very feasible for someone else to hang there clothes up down the road, even if they aren’t abnormally tall like us, plus, it left a good foot to still store things we don’t need on a daily basis above the top shelf.  He also removed the shoe rack.  Combined we have a lot more shoes than we even fit there, and we can just line them up on the floor around the perimeter of the closet.  My handyman went to Home Depot and picked up all the supplies he needed and built two rows of shelves around the whole closet.  Think:  folded jeans and pants and t-shirts; baskets to hold our underclothing and socks; a place to set a jewelry holder and belts.   Genius.

He still has plans to paint the whole closet a charcoal gray and install some better lighting to show off his good work.  I don’t know which makes me more excited, the new and improved closet, or the ability to stop living out of plastic bags now.
