Befores, afters, mood boards, plans, failures, wins. We’ve done a lot of projects, and they’re all here.

We have a long-standing relationship with DIY, and love rolling our sleeves up and making it happen.

Even when you don’t want to rip down a wall, you can make that space in your home better. Right now.

We did it!  Our very first yard sale was a success and a learning experience.  People were showing up an hour before it started.  And when our friend came to pick up Greta for a few hours while we played merchants, they took that as a sign we were ready for them.  We were not!  Apparently it is common around here to get to all the sales early–but, because we had people hovering over our stuff before we even had it all out, it took a lot longer to get it out because one of us had to stay outside to make sure no one stole anything–AND so that people wouldn’t mistake Chris’s bb gun we were selling for a real gun (talk about a hot item).
Every hour that passed, I would go around and mark down all the prices again (so, really the people at the tail end of the sale got the best bargains).  Chris and I decided that we want the stuff gone more than we wanted loads of cash.  I think this is an important decision to make before you start any yard/garage/moving sale:  Do you want to make major moolah or do you want it all gone?  Our mindset was we didn’t want to take most of these items with us in our move so we were REAL flexible on the price, and the larger and pricier items we would take with us if they didn’t sell.  Lucky for us, we made out pretty well AND got rid of a lot of stuff.  $922 pocketed and the rest of it went to the thrift store….Oh, and Chris’s beloved wardrobe came back inside with us. :)

What do you think?

  1. Hmm…guess the markdowns on his clothes didn’t sweeten the pot?

I love yards sales, I totally would have come to yours if I lived closer. I hate it when you go to a yard sale and the people think there stuff is made of gold, $3.00 for a used onesie, in your dreams PEOPLE!!!!

Pretty sure ALL of our stuff combined wouldn’t be $1000. Good work!!! Wish we could have been there to scout it out! I’ve never been one for yard sales, maybe I love having Saturday morning to lounge…but maybe I SHOULD get out there. I’m sure I’d find a ton for cheap. Can’t wait for the big move!!!

A reader recently asked me if I’m starting to fully embrace traditional style and whether we still consider our house to be a “modern Colonial” and why. It was a really great question and so timely — I had really just been thinking about my approach to this home and how my style has changed […]
