Befores, afters, mood boards, plans, failures, wins. We’ve done a lot of projects, and they’re all here.

We have a long-standing relationship with DIY, and love rolling our sleeves up and making it happen.

Even when you don’t want to rip down a wall, you can make that space in your home better. Right now.

Chris and I celebrated our anniversary a little late, but in a big way.  This was my very first trip to Vegas.  I know.  I know.  Lift your jaw from the floor.
We took no pictures on our honeymoon, we took a couple pictures this trip.  They were all taken on the same day.  And there is only one picture of Chris and I together…kinda.
Looking at flamingos.  Did you know they are pinkish from eating shrimp?

Look closely in my sunglasses.  You will see Chris taking a picture.  So even though this isn’t a particularly flattering picture (talk-smile, gotta love it) I had to post it because it was our only picture semi-together.

The highlight was our date Friday night at Rare 120.  We both had filets.  And salad.  And mashed potatoes–three ways: truffle, lobster and chives.  Oh yeah, and dessert: ice cream sandwiches.  Chris said it was the best meal he has ever had…and that’s saying something!  It was the best for me too, but that’s not really that impressive.

Chris was actually born in Las Vegas and he lived there until he was 5.  We went and visited his old home.  He pointed out where all the family friends lived.  He knew exactly where he chipped his tooth and where the alley was that they used to cut through.  I was in awe at his memory and the huge cactus that was in the neighbor’s yard.  I had never seen a real cactus!

“Hi, first house!”

Greta was a champ the entire trip, well, until it was bedtime.  Everywhere we went, she got a lot of attention.  “Oh, this must be the cutest baby in Vegas!”  Lots of “OOoos” and “ahhhs”  and stares like, “I can’t believe you brought a baby to Las Vegas!”  She was a great prop when Chris auditioned for Minute-to-Win-it.  (awesome, right!?)  He was in a room with 5 other people also audtioning and Greta definitely helped keep the attention on him; Greta and his stellar personality.

Vegas loved Greta…and Greta thought Vegas was hilarious
We walked many miles which helped burn off all the food we ate: including 2 entire pizzas and the other $200+ we spent on dining out over the weekend…trying not to freak out about that number.  Viva Las Vegas, right?

We were overdressed.  Not in the Sunday-clothes-when-everyone-else-is-wearing-jeans way, but we were wearing jeans and shirts and not just floss: lesson learned!  I am not sure I am cut out for Vegas (I fall asleep before any action starts in that city), but we had a blast and I am so glad I got to experience it with my Chris-baby and Greta-girl at least once.

What do you think?

I wanna hear more about Minute to Win It! Love that show, did you know auditions were going to be taking place?

  2. We loved reading this – the house hasn’t actually changed much, a touch of blue. I could almost picture a big white dog running down the sidewalk with a bunch of rowdy boys surrounding him. I loved it there! So glad you enjoyed your trip.

  3. I am soooo not a fan of Vegas. BUT I do believe that you need to visit at least once. It was definitely interesting. My cousins lived there growing up, so i’ve been a few times as a child. But my bro got married in vegas (well, the st. george temple, but the reception was in vegas). That city wore me out!!!

I think I was more concerned with screening my brothers eyes from all the porno cards they pass out on the strip than anything!! hahaha

Ahem, totally blushing that Greta is using her binky clip AND that adorable hair flower clip :-) LOVE it.

A reader recently asked me if I’m starting to fully embrace traditional style and whether we still consider our house to be a “modern Colonial” and why. It was a really great question and so timely — I had really just been thinking about my approach to this home and how my style has changed […]
