Our Pressure Washer is Our Best Friend + A Giveaway!!

This post and giveaway is sponsored by Briggs and Stratton. Pressure washing is, pretty much, our favorite summer hobby around here. In our most recent podcast, it was only a half-joke when we say we pressure wash every day.  So we were very excited when Briggs + Stratton asked if they could send us one of their newest models and give one away, too! We also snagged a discount code for everyone (!!) I put at the bottom of the post. And with Father’s Day just around the corner, I can’t think of a more perfect gift. This particular pressure washer (The Briggs & Stratton 2000 MAX PSI* at 1.1 GPM / 3.5 MAX GPM* at 80 PSI – Featuring POWERflow+ Technology™) has a fold down steel frame handle which makes it super compact so we can store it in our deck box and break it out nearly every day. We’ve had intense wind and…

How to Repair or Patch a Wall + Our Go-To Tools for the Job

Our stairwell has been through a lot over the years. From gallery walls and then no frames, to a new railing and the elimination of a DIY baby gate that was attached to the wall, the scars and gashes the drywall has seen in this corner of our house have been too many to count! Not to mention, our slight orange peel textured walls definitely throws a curve ball in the mix when it comes to patching. But, recently, we finally got around to patching where the old railing attached to the wall (a deep hole!) and where the baby gate attached (minor) and wanted to take you through our fool-proof method. First, you’re going to need a few tools in your arsenal to get the job done right. After 8 years of doing this, we swear by: 1. Fibatape. If you have huge holes or deep gashes, this self-sticking tape is…

5 Tips for Keeping Area Rugs EXACTLY Where You Want Them.

A few months ago, we layered a really gorgeous vintage rug (from here) on top of our FLOR tiles in our entry. While we loved the character it added, and the extra layer of dirt camouflage, we struggled with it constantly bunching and moving around on top of the FLOR carpet squares. Often resulting in a look more like this: I ended up rolling it up for our big Halloween party so it didn’t become a hazard, but I was determined to keep it in place without excessive straightening every afternoon. Whether you’re layering area rugs, or putting an area rug over wall-to-wall carpet, or just laying an area rug over hard flooring, here are the top 5 tips and methods for keeping them exactly where you want them. 1. Rug pad The most obvious is a rug pad. We have them under every area rug in our home to help them last longer…

4 Reasons to Have a Garment Steamer In Your Tool Arsenal

We got a new toy, I mean tool–the CONAIR Turbo ExtremeSteam® Handheld Fabric Steamer–the most powerful handheld steamer on the market. Being someone that loathes ironing so much I only have a handful of shirts that need ironing ever, I knew it wouldn’t get a ton of action in the laundry room. However, I’m still here to announce, every home tool arsenal needs one of these for a few really good reasons. 1. Our sofa has never been more fresh. Running the steamer over our upholstered furniture has given it new life! The steam deodorizes and sanitizes without using any chemicals. Our couch is brighter than ever and I never have to pay to have it professionally cleaned again! (It costs less than one upholstery cleaning, anyway!) 2. No more ironing home linens. It’s better to have no curtains than wrinkled curtains in my book. Which is saying a lot because I think curtains add such…

PSA – Tools on Sale (not sponsored)

Ok y’all, this is not a drill! Though, there are quite a few drills in this post, but crap, no, we don’t have time for lame puns because this is limited time only kinda stuff! Remember my gift guide last week that looked like a freaking DeWalt sponsored post? I promise, all my heart, it wasn’t. I just really love their tools and guess what, Amazon gave me the scoop last night through a massively distributed email that a bunch of DeWalt tools are on CRAZY sale and I’m sharing it because seriously, it’s a great deal. I know this is such a weird post, but I tell Jules all the time how getting our DeWalt impact driver was the greatest thing that ever happened to our DIYs, and since a lot of you are on that same DIY path, this is your chance to score super high quality tools…

Our Go-To (Tried and True!) Paint Supplies

I have been meaning to put together this post for awhile, so when a reader on our last post reminded me how much I have been painting lately, I thought it’s time. So, here it is! The great guide to everything you need to have a really great painting “party.” How it works over here is I usually do all the cutting in and then Chris rolls. But since his back surgery (and prior to because of the pain), I’ve been doing both. It’s so much more fun and a lot faster to paint a room with somebody, but definitely doable and even sometimes enjoyable (??) alone. It’s all about having the right tools, and here are my tried and true absolute favorites to get the job done. 1. Shur-Line Extension Pole: Ugh. We love this thing. It twists open to extend with a quick flick of the wrist, and can shorten…

DIY Industrial Step Stool

Greta is at that magic age, where she is actually capable of helping out in the kitchen–washing the grapes and picking them off the stems, making her own peanut butter banana, helping Chris by dumping ingredients into the bowl, and her current favorite (that takes place in the kitchen sink) is helping with Faye’s bath. Even though she is a tall girl and getting more capable by the day, she still needed to drag a dining room chair into the kitchen constantly–which definitely crowded things. Chris and I came up with a plan to make her a little step stool (inspired by this one) and it turned out beautifully! Black+Decker sent us their new new 20V MAX* Lithium Cordless Drill/Driver with AutoSense Technology (no more screws stopping short, stripped screws, or damaged wood!) to work with and one to giveaway at the end of this post. The whole thing only cost us…

Our Latest Indispensable Find + $100 Ace Giveaway

Chris and I have always been very selective about the sponsors and partners we work with. Our main goal of our blog is to document our home renovation and to share a little peek into our lives occasionally. We look at it as a story and we like our simple story. We pass on a lot of sponsor opportunities, but love to say “yes!” to partnerships that naturally fit into that goal and our timeline of projects we’d like to complete. That being said, we are so happy to be on the Ace Blogger Panel again this year. It’s a very natural partnership because Ace Hardware is the only hardware store within a 30 mile radius of us and it happens to be less than a mile away right in our very rural small town. We have become familiar with the staff at our local store and although they don’t…
