2017: The Good, The Bad, Would We Do It Again

Every year we like to revisit a few things in our home – things that we get asked about a lot – and talk about how we feel about them day-to-day. We think it’s a good way to hopefully answer some questions for our readers and keep things real for all of us. So let’s kick it off with one of our more well-known pieces. Living Room Coffee Table The Good: We loved the look of this coffee table, and the construction of it is very sturdy and heavy. It’s a classy piece of furniture that would work well with several types of design. The Bad: Scratches. The  metal top is very scratched up from our girls sliding things across it over the past fifteen months. People without kids may have better luck with it, but the finish was not meant for our home. Would We Do It Again: Probably not. It’s been great, but…

Which is Better: Tuft & Needle or Leesa (Since we have both!)

We’ve had a king-sized Tuft & Needle mattress in our master bedroom for almost a year now and last fall, we put two XL twin Leesa mattresses in the girls’ bunk room. A few people asked why we didn’t get the same mattress, and the truth is–we were curious to see if we would have liked the Leesa more! Now that it’s been a few months with both, we thought we’d share our own opinions of how they differ and even which one we’d prefer if we could do it all over again. But first, they have a lot of similarities. •BOTH you can order online. •BOTH have thousands of 5 star reviews •BOTH have 100 night risk free return policy •BOTH are a 10″ high-quality foam mattress •BOTH come in a box and expand to full size in about an hour after unboxing With all those similarities, they are absolutely not the…

Our Kitchen: One Year Later

It’s been a whole year since we finished our kitchen renovation (how!?) so we thought it would be fun to share how it looks today (not all that different) and how it has been wearing, as well as, some additions we’ve made and things we’re thinking about changing or would do differently. 1. What’s new? There have only been a few additions since completing the kitchen a year ago, and maybe that’s a good sign. We added hanging herb planters a few weeks ago that instantly added life to the kitchen. We also ended up buying a second over-the-counter cutting board from Ikea. Initially we bought it to replace our current one for when it was worn, but we ended up putting it on the other side of the ranges and it just stayed there. It’s so convenient to have a couple chopping stations “built in” and they are only around $10 each….

The Good, The Bad, Would We Do It Again?

Back in August 2014, I reviewed some of the items in our home that I get asked about the most and I meant to make it a yearly thing and somehow it is already 2016. However, I do think this is an important series I intend to check back in on from time to time and not just in a passing Instagram comment (which is where I get most of these questions). While we always do a lot of research before bringing something into our home, I want to get in the habit of reviewing these pieces for all of you after the honeymoon phase has worn off. Here’s what we’re asked about the most in the past year: West Elm’s Graham Glider The Good: We’ve had this glider for 2 years now! Faye is almost 2! How is this possible?! Man, I can’t say enough good things about this glider. The high back…

Bright Lab Lights | An Unsolicited Review

As soon as Bright Lab launched, I knew that I wanted a strand for Greta’s room. Ca-ute! Their “Sorbet” strand matched her floral duvet almost perfectly. Sold. I thought I’d give you a little unsolicited review since they are new and a hot item. The strands come in 2 different sizes–24 balls ($29.95) and 48 ($49.95). Initially, I admit, I had a little bit of sticker shock, especially with the $10 shipping on top of that. But (!!), once I looked at it as a sort of piece of art for Greta’s room, I immediately sprung for the 48 ball strand which is 10′ long with a 5′ cord. My box arrived within a week, and that was even with my second guessing. Oy. I originally modified my strand, which is a really great feature of the product. They have 38 different colored cotton balls and you can make a…

A Nursery Update and The Graham Glider Review

The nursery is still progressing at snail speed, but even at that rate we should finish it up this weekend and hope to have lots of pictures for you by the beginning of next week. I am sticking to my goal of hanging one thing a day (lofty, I know!) and this week I’ve hung a couple prints, some infamous blogger book ledges and the sweetest mobile. This mobile was in the original mood board and it didn’t disappoint when it arrived several weeks ago. So, so charming. I’m so glad we finally got it up, even if little Faye can’t see that far yet. Another thing that arrived several weeks ago is the glider we decided on. Way back in February, I posted about a bunch of different gliders and rockers at every price point, and the one we ended up purchasing–the Graham glider from West Elm–actually wasn’t even…
