A Rug and Dresser for the Nursery (and Beyond!) | One Room Challenge Week 4

It’s time for another update on our One Room Challenge, where we’re making over our nursery for our 3rd little girl due this summer. Week 4! How did we get here?! So far, we have added loads of pretty trim in week 2 and dreamy wallpaper in week 3. And if you missed the before, head to week 1. This week, we rolled out a new rug and dresser for the space–the foundation pieces if you will, that needed to be less baby/nursery specific and more could-transition-elsewhere-after those precious years. This rug, the Marin from Rejuvenation, was definitely the choice that took the longest of any decision in this room. After we nailed down our wallpaper choice, I looked at no less that 750 rugs for the room. Probably a lot more, actually. I looked at vintage rugs for days. I pinned several of them (see them on this Pinterest board, if you’d like). I put…

High / Low : Our ARTERIORS Home Jacob Coffee Table Dupe!

The coffee table we used, and love so much, in our family room has a look-a-like and I can barely believe my eyes! Last week, on Instagram, one of our readers showed off their new beautiful coffee table and tagged me in the caption saying they were inspired by ours. (Update: It was @wendellswartz. You can see hers here.) The most insane thing is, they are the exact same dimensions, weight and are both made from Mango wood. The ARTERIORS one on the right (the one that’s in our family room) looks a little more distressed but the biggest difference is definitely the price.   Pretty crazy, right?!!! On the left is the Excellent Round Side Table by The Urban Port for $292 (plus, free shipping!) and on the right is the ARTERIORS Home Jacob Coffee Table on sale for $1085 (plus, free shipping!). Honestly, it adds so much warmth and absolutely…

Our New Modern Chesterfield Black Leather Sofa

When we were still living in our last home, we purchased an off-white mid-century style sofa that has now lived in our reading room since we moved here. It fit nicely size-wise, but as the room and our style has evolved, it fit less and less in with the vision. We’ve been on the look out for a new one for awhile now and one evening, I was actually on our own blog, checking the archives and I saw a banner ad that Article (formerly Bryght) was having a sale. They have a lot of great options for really reasonable prices. I was immediately drawn to their Alcott Oxford Black Sofa, but we already had a black leather chair in the room (at the time–now it’s in our bedroom) so I wasn’t sure if Chris would be up for switching everything around. So I came up with a plan. I’d show…

Our New Sectional from Interior Define

THIS GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED.  A couple weeks ago, the Ainsley sectional from Interior Define was delivered, unboxed and put together in the basement family room by two men in shoe covers wearing white gloves. It felt really luxurious, but then, like nothing, compared to the way the actual sectional feels. We’ve been enjoying movie nights, letting the girls run around while we lounge and chat, working with our feet stretched out. We never want to get off this thing. It’s good. It’s so very good. I talked about the decision process in this post, but now that it’s here, it’s easier to see how and why we wanted a sectional to look just like this. While Interior Define didn’t have the exact sectional we wanted listed, their site says, “All of our furniture is made-to-order, and you can customize nearly all of our pieces without significantly altering the price.” So, I thought it was worth…

A Custom Sectional for Downstairs at an Attainable Price

The sectional hunt for the playroom was a bit of a rollercoaster but it ended in such a happy place. None of it will make sense though without this extremely awful photo of our downstairs. Let’s call this the before photo. I use this photo I dug up on my phone because you can see where the “playroom side” lights and table are as a reference. The built-ins/television will be on that far wall with a sectional facing it. That was the dream. We just had to find the perfect one with the perfect configuration in the perfect size for a reasonable price. Cue nervous laughter. This H2 Design + Build space is serving as a big inspiration for our downstairs. And the sofa with 2 chaises seemed perfect for our setup. Everyone would be facing the screen while still providing the extra feet-up comfort x 2. We have no…

Living Room Update + Sources!

We’ve been making a few little updates around the house over the past couple months in preparation for two big, exciting things coming up in the beginning of next year. The spaces that were almost there, but not quite–like the living room–got a few finishing touches. Like, our first ever actual coffee table. And new pillows after 4 years. Across from the couch, we finally found the twin to our leather chair and we added lighting and an end table in between the two. There’s much to share, and trust me when I say you will be seeing it all plenty in the new year (!!) but you can catch lots of glimpses on Instagram (@chrislovesjulia–head over there for a $250 Wayfair giveaway today!) until we’re able to share.  But, for now, I wanted to give you a little sneak peek of this side of the living room and share links to…

A New Table + The Dining Room Before & Afters!

We got ourselves a new dining room table! When we shared the before and afters of our kitchen renovation, so many of you wanted to see how the rest of the great room worked into the new kitchen, specifically the dining room since they are so close in proximity. At the time, we were in the process of finalizing a new dining table, and I felt our old dining room table would detract from the new kitchen, so I held off sharing a pulled back view. But today we finally get to share those photos and details–our new kitchen has a new dining table to go with it and they complement each other so well. Our last dining room set we bought for our first apartment when we were first married nearly 7 years ago. Although it was in terrible shape when we sold it last week, it held a…

A Big, Cozy Bedroom Update

Over the last week, we have been working on our bedroom and I am so excited to share some progress photos with you. Even in our last house, we never really really got to our bedroom, so we are investing a little bit of money into this just-for-us space and it has already made such a difference. A bedroom is such a personal space and it is finally starting to feel like it reflects our personality. It feels comfortable, which is of course how a bedroom should feel, but our bedroom has always just kind of felt like where we slept. Here’s how it looked when we moved in: Over the last year and a half, we tore up the old carpet and laid the same ceramic wood floors, but all the furniture remained the same. We did paint the walls a moody dark grayish blue-green. Now, only the basics…

We Bought A Bed!

Our bedroom has taken a backseat as of late while we traveled and worked on the laundry room–more updates there later this week! The damper came when we waited too long to purchase the bed we had our eyes on. It was my own fault really. You may remember in the mood board for the master (check out the original post here for links to all the products pictured), we picked out a pretty four-poster bed. I had some insider information that Crate & Barrel was discontinuing their Osborn 4 poster bed in the fall and I thought it would surely go on clearance and we could score a deal on it. Well, it is on clearance, but all the king sized beds are sold out! I was a little disappointed, but we had been waffling about purchasing the bed due to the height of the top rail–it is just…

Leather Chairs for Every Budget + A new one in the Living Room!

A few months after we finished the reading room, we inherited a very beautiful piano passed down from Chris’s great grandmother. So the reading room went from this: To this: And it’s been like that ever since, while our cream Lily couch shuffled into the living room. Lots of shuffling. The problem with the set up above is 1. we actually enjoyed having a couch in this room and used it daily and 2. The piano and shelves are competing. A few weeks ago, we set out a plan to rework the room, fitting the piano onto the far wall with bookshelves surrounding it–feeling very inspired by this photo. We’ll move the couch back in the reading room and the plan was to get a couple of leather chairs for the living room. Well, the whole process has kind of been quickened because over the weekend we found this guy:…
