Revealing the Pittsburgh Kitchen to the Family

Remember that kitchen in Pittsburgh we renovated in June? Well, renovating a kitchen in 6 days was only half the fun, keeping it hidden from the homeowners (my aunt and uncle and their three children) was my favorite part. Today we’re so excited to share with you a fun video from Frigidaire Professional of when we were finally able to reveal the kitchen for the first time to the homeowners. While they lived in the house the entire week, we renovated the kitchen and tarped it off so they couldn’t see it (besides their 16 year old son who was so eager to help) until the big reveal day. It was a very special moment with lots of tears, hugs and cheers — there’s nothing like the smell of fresh chocolate chip cookies in a brand new kitchen! Since coming home, we received a nice note from the Worrall family expressing how much…

Before and After: A Small, Pittsburgh Kitchen Gets A Complete Makeover in 6 Days

My aunt and uncle’s home in Pittsburgh is more than 90 years old and full of character, but the kitchen, like so many other kitchens, definitely had its fair share of challenges: the small 9×9 footprint, the outdated electrical, the radiator in the corner, no dishwasher, the in-swinging door that hindered so much usable space, the lack of counter space–and if all that wasn’t looming over us, we were given just 6 days to tackle the complete gut job renovation. We spilled a lot of our plans in this post, but as a reminder, here’s the before: And six days later, here’s the after! Of course there was a lot that happened in those six days. My sister, Andrea, documented the whole renovation process via video so we’ll cover a lot of those details when we release that footage later, along with a couple other videos she did for the project–including the reveal…

How to Renovate a Kitchen in 6 days + All the Details

It’s crazy to think about leaving for Pittsburgh in just 3 days! We take off Friday to renovate an entire kitchen for Frigidaire Professional, on camera, in a handful of days (read more about how that came to be here). We did our own kitchen renovation in 7 weeks, which felt good and fast and something to be proud of. But we’ll be doing this one in 6 days and, really, we’re just crossing our toes and holding our breath and preparing ourselves for little sleep and a lot of fun. Honestly, we have spent every waking minute planning the details of this kitchen for the last 3 months and now that it’s just about here, we thought it would be fun to share the plans of how Chris and I mapped out exactly how we plan to tackle an entire gut kitchen renovation in a short amount of time. But first!…

Welp, We’re Doing Another Kitchen.

If you would have told me 6 months ago when we finished our kitchen renovation, that we’d be doing another one so soon, I might have passed out. But, the wonderful truth is that Frigidaire saw overwhelming response from us using their appliances in our kitchen, they asked us if we’d be up for designing and tackling another kitchen this year. Originally, it was going to be a set kitchen, but it started feeling impersonal and wasteful. Eventually, they asked, “Do you know anybody that needs a kitchen renovation?” Those are magical words and hard words to hear at the same time. I know, probably 300,000 people that would love a kitchen renovation–how could we choose?! I told them that I would think about it. This was about the same time that we were gearing up to start accepting applications for our Lowe’s Spring Makeover. I had the idea to start…

HOW OUR FRIGIDAIRE PROFESSIONAL APPLIANCES TRANSFORMED OUR KITCHEN AND HOW WE USE IT + A VIDEO!

Today we are so excited to finally share with you a little more about the Frigidaire Professional appliances we chose for the kitchen. We couldn’t be more in love with how they transformed the way our kitchen looks, but more importantly, the way it functions and works for us. Along with a bunch of fresh photos and thorough explanation, I’m probably most excited to share with you the video we shot with Jordan Borrowman for Frigidaire Professional last week. We invited over a few friends for a dinner party so you could really see everything, the kitchen, the appliances, the flow, and all of us in action. That was such a fun night! Not only did we officially break in the kitchen, but it was exactly the way we wanted to do it–with a whole bunch of people over. We designed this kitchen with the idea and hope that we’d be able…

Let’s Talk About Appliances!

Appliances are probably the most important part of the entire kitchen, but especially to Chris. He is a serious at-home cook who not only enjoys making meals every night for our family, but we invite people over a couple times a week, as well. There were only a few particular items on his must-have appliance list: 1. More than one oven. 2. A large cooktop, greater than 36″. 3. An all-refrigerator (with a separate freezer in the pantry) to maximize space for fresh foods. Initially, Chris had eyes only for the Viking/Wolf brands. That’s what he really wanted. We even included a 48″ Viking range and all-refrigerator in our initial kitchen mood board, but we could never really get used to the price. The range and fridge together were close to what we had planned on spending for our entire remodel! Soon after we posted that mood board, we actually…
