Casual Friday

We’ve been dreaming of purchasing a small cabin in the mountains for over two years now and for the last 9 months, we have been actively looking at properties. Our ideal is something on the small and cozy size that is surrounded by trees, needs a little TLC, has winter access, and one that we could rent out when we’re not using it. This week, we found her. Or we thought we did. It was the perfect size, at just under 1200 square feet. And each of the three bedrooms had windows with trees out every one. Just as we were ready to make an offer, our realtor discovered this cabin couldn’t be rented out due to the area covenants. It’s hard to get so excited about something and then have it not work out. Even now, days later, I’m still naively holding out hope that something will change. But on the other hand, even though it’s hard…

Casual Friday

It’s been a jam-packed week and I’m feeling ready for a nap. I’m looking at you, Mother’s Day. At the beginning of this week, I had a surge of energy–at last! I cleaned everything from top to bottom and then shopped our house to rearrange a few things in the entry. I pulled this blue bench from our bedroom (where it was only collecting clothes daily) and the big round mirror (this one) from the guest room (where I moved the big mirror from Ikea that was in the entry), rolled up the vintage rug for Spring and Summer and now it feels so light and fresh. There’s nothing more exhilarating than playing musical chairs with all the stuff in your own house. With the One Room Challenge complete (thank you so much for all the love on that!) and the deck in a good place, and the bathroom renovation still on hold (we’re waiting…

Casual Friday

Aloha! Chris and I flew to Maui yesterday for some much needed R&R and a little babymoon he surprised me with for Valentine’s day. The funny thing is, we have never taken a babymoon before, but I guess it’s our last one so we’re living it up before becoming a family of five! We’ve never been to Hawaii before and don’t have any major plans while we’re here–snorkeling, eating, and relaxing are topping our list. But if you have any outstanding places or restaurants we should definitely check out, especially in the Ka’anapali area where we’re staying, we’d love to hear! We have a few posts scheduled for while we’re gone, but I couldn’t resist checking in today and sharing a few things that I came across this week that I can’t get out of my mind… (cue my terrible podcast song? haha) • My current favorite maternity dress (pictured above)…

Casual Friday

(Old photo snapped of our group. Me, mid-story, looking only a little nuts. Haha) It’s not news that one of our favorite things to do is to have people over. It started a long time ago, before we even had kids or a mortgage. Shortly after we were married, we hosted our first Friendsgiving. We didn’t have fancy serving dishes or recipes or cloth napkins. After we had our first daughter, and she went to bed at 6 pm (!!), we invited friends over for dinner, after she went to sleep, as a way to still socialize as new parents. But now, it’s definitely grown to be a bigger constant in our lives and something our girls look forward to. At least 3 times a week, we have friends or family into our home for a good meal and we sit around the table for hours to talk or play games….

Casual Friday + 24 week update!

I haven’t had the chance to put up a Casual Friday in a couple weeks due to traveling and projects, and there’s so much I am excited to chat about today, including a little pregnancy update later in the post. While I don’t share a ton about my pregnancies generally, I thought it would be fun to check in periodically and 24 weeks felt like a good milestone to do so. But first! • The prettiest growth chart I ever did see. • “The Irish exit is not rude. It’s a sign of emotional intelligence — of candor, of self-assuredness. It means you know where you stand with everyone else, that you have some semblance of awareness.” Yes, Yes, Yessss.  • World Market is killing the outdoor pillow game this year. This Kilim one , this Macrame and Wood Bead one, and this Jali Macrame one are already impeccably priced, but you can take…

Casual Friday

Earlier this week, Chris and I went to lunch and got to talking about our house. The conversation turned into some interesting/quirky facts about it that I’m sure we’ll share in a future post one day. But the funniest one, that we are reminded of almost daily, is when we hung wallpaper in the entry, we took out the doorbell. Faye was just a baby at the time, and we had a tiny sign over the bell outside to not ring it but knock softly instead. Doorbell rings. Dog barks. Baby wakes up. You know the drill. So we thought, you know, we don’t really need this bell anyway and removed it from the inside of our house and haven’t had a working bell since. Eventually–over a year ago, two?–the tiny sign on the doorbell outside fell off and up until yesterday, people would continue to push the button, figuring it still worked. Not…

Casual Friday + Facebook Live Today!

We’ll be doing our first Facebook Live today at 11:15am MST, shopping for our new mattress! Join us here. This week got off to a rough start as we dealt with serious hackers from Japan. Within a matter of minutes, our site was redirected to a Japanese audience, they had set up shops under hidden pages and as we were frantically trying to sort through code, they took over the blog completely and we no longer had access. We have security in place, and had only had a minor hacking incident once before but nothing like this. I tried my best to keep my emotions together, says the pregnant woman, while Chris was on a frantic call with our host. All the while, we were getting messages from our readers, sponsors and clients letting us know that our site had been compromised–which we so appreciated. In a way, it let…

Casual Friday + President’s Day Deals!

The new rug for the living room arrived this week (more on Monday!) and we love it so much. We got a lot of inquiries about purchasing our blue rug, but we rolled it up and put it in storage for now because we still love it so much, too, and will likely use it in the future somewhere. This winter was long and dark and sometimes you just need a little change to get out of a funk, and there’s no shame in that. We’re enjoying our lighter digs and it spurred a little bit of rearranging, too! Everything feels fresh and new and I can’t wait to share the lighting hack Chris came up with for the living room on Monday, too. Changed my life! Other fun things this week! • I’m always on the hunt for new art, and I can’t wait to hang this latest piece by my favorite artist in…

Casual Friday

Many of you have noticed things have been different around here for awhile. We’re still getting multiple emails and questions every day wondering when our post schedule is going to get back to its normal Monday-Friday. First, we couldn’t be more grateful that we have such a strong and loyal readership that we get to share our renovation story with almost daily. Thank you. That being said, I hope our announcement on Monday helped make some sense of that. We’re excited, and we wanted this so so badly, but like my other pregnancies, it’s not easy for me or my body or my family.  I’m very sick, and often times, any sort of screen (especially a scrolling screen like my phone) makes it a lot worse. I’m on an anti-nausea regimen and working closely with my doctor so that I can gain weight in hopes my nerves don’t go into shock again–I have a history…

Where We’re Headed for the Lowe’s Spring Makeover + Casual Friday

Thank you for your patience this week as we read through all 2648 of your submissions for the Lowe’s Spring makeover. We took our task really seriously and ultimately landed on the space above, belonging to Aura S. of Baltimore, Maryland. We’re excited to share plans and progress and Instagram the project in real time when we’re actually doing the makeover. There were so many deserving spaces, and we wish we could have selected more than one, but are hopeful for a lot more future projects like this. We also want to thank you for all of your well-wishes about Greta’s hearing. She had a successful surgery yesterday. She woke up in a lot of pain, but she’s already hearing 100% better and we’re told it’s only going to improve over the next 10 days. To be honest, the recovery is no picnic, but she’s trying to drink a lot of fluids and watching…
