We sold our first home  in the summer of 2013 and purchased our second in Idaho by early Fall 2013. And surprise, surprise, it needed updating, too. While we still have a ways to go, here is a video tour of our home 3 years later, in the Fall of 2016. You can also see each space we’ve tackled, as well as links to their full posts, below.

Progress: We’ve added a fence, updated the lighting, freshened up landscaping and DIYed house numbers so far. A new front door is on its way!

STUDY

The room to the immediate right when you walk into our home has been deemed the study. When we moved in it was yellow and carpeted and lifeless, but it did have a wall of windows going for it.

It went through many phases before we landed on how it looks today:

It also pulls double duty as my office right now, complete with a small leaning desk that helps me cut clutter and stay organized.

HALF BATH

One of the first rooms we tackled when we moved in was a neon green half bath off of the entry.

We planked and painted the walls, added new porcelain wood flooring, painted the cabinetry, updated the lighting and added a slew of art.

KITCHEN

The kitchen was dark, stuffy and used space inefficiently.

After reconfiguring the adjacent laundry/bathroom area into a laundry/mudroom, we added a pantry and recessed the fridge into the wall, making room for additional windows, counter space, and functionality.

LAUNDRY & MUDROOM

Much like our original kitchen, the laundry area was cramped and dark, with a bathroom next to it, directly off the kitchen.

Since nobody wants to go to the bathroom right next to the kitchen/dining area, we took the entire thing out and moved the pantry here, closing up the space where the old laundry was and using that for the walk-in pantry off the kitchen. Here is the before:

Understanding how this entire area all fits together is a bit confusing, so you can check out more details on this here and here.

GRETA’S ROOM

Greta’s room was bright, but bare–and very blue when we moved in.

She helped with nearly every decision made in her own little space and we came up with a playful room brimming with personality.

FAYE’S NURSERY

Faye’s nursery was a similar (the same?) shade of blue when we moved in. When we bought this house, we had no idea I was expecting and no immediate plans for this room.

But, once we discovered there was another little girl headed our way, we transformed this room into a nursery for our dear Faye.

LIVING ROOM

Our “great room”–living room, dining room and kitchen–is still very much a work in progress. When we first moved in, almost everything was painted a really dark brown black.

We’ve replaced all the flooring, painted, changed out light fixtures, added a huge window and art and rearranged furniture to get it to where it is today.

BACKYARD & DECK

Our yard is an odd, triangle shape. Which means the space that people would traditionally call our “backyard” is pretty small.

So we decided that, even though it may make a small backyard, it would make a really large, awesome deck.

Summer evenings on this deck are indescribable. We feel like we’ve added an entire great room onto our home and we spend time out here whenever we can. Night time is pretty great, too.

MASTER BEDROOM

We are always working on our master bedroom–also blue when we moved in.

We’ve painted, ran the same faux wood floors in here, and brought in cozy furnishings and art.

FAMILY ROOM

Two fluorescent light fixtures, complete with flickering, buzzing and all that jazz, were the main sources of light in this room. There were also mismatched paint sheens (so some parts of the wall were glossy and other parts matte), dirty carpet and a general feeling of neglect.

We revamped the fireplace, added recessed lighting, uncovered the window wells a bit to allow more natural light in, and defined how we wanted the parts of the space to be used with toy storage and a built-in entertainment center.

This truly is a “family room,” in every sense. There’s something for all of us down here, and we love being together in this space. See the full reveal here.

While we’ve accomplished a lot, there’s still more to come! Two bathrooms, an office, bedrooms and more work outside. We hope you’ll follow along as we work our way through this home and onto whatever adventures lie ahead.
