Our guest room is finished! We’re excited to show you a bunch of photos today and I’ve linked all the sources at the very bottom of the post for you, too. This was a pretty simple, straightforward makeover with just paint and some new furnishings and accessories mixed in with a few things we already had. We needed to finish before our families arrived for the holiday and we were thrilled we got all the main elements in place before our guests arrived and put the finishing touches (I finally found the perfect curtains!) in place just last week.

You might remember this room used be Greta’s old room (the before from when we moved in is below) until we finished the bunk room in the next room over last fall, which used to be the guest room. Essentially, the rooms have now officially swapped and all is well in the house again.

The bed frame was a steal, which allowed a little extra funds to go toward some good, textural bedding–but even that was on sale.

Texture on texture is a big trend that I’m loving right now, and the nubby coverlet reminded me so much of the one my grandma used to have on her bed. I paired it with the softest flannel duvet cover (My sister who stayed with us asked me where I got it because she wanted one for her bed at home!–that’s just what you want to hear as a host, right?).

Opposite the bed, we hung a large 36″ round mirror (that I wouldn’t mind hanging in a few other places around the house, stunning), a luggage rack, and a few decorative pieces like those faux antlers that make the room feel more lived in.

When we gave a sneak peek of the guest room a few weeks ago, we had a few questions about a boxspring because this bed frame does call for one. I’ve never understood why boxsprings are so large and especially in our home, where we have standard 8 ft ceilings, super tall beds just take up too much visual space. So, I was pleasantly surprised to find a boxspring that was just 4-5 inches and upholstered nicely at a local mattress store (I linked one similar in the sources at the bottom of the post). You can see the charcoal color peeking out of the frame in the photo below.

The very last element we added to the room were these light heather gray curtains. I have been on the hunt for good gray curtains that weren’t so solid but had a little bit of movement and texture to them. I’m so happy with these! They are lined and thick and come in multiple sizes–I ordered the 96″ length…naturally. ;)

Maybe it’s because Chris and I both come from large families, or that we live in a pretty remote part of the country that when you come to town, you probably need a place to stay–but we seem to always be happily welcoming people into our home. And it feels so good to have a place for them to hopefully feel comfortable with us.

What do you think?

  1. Jennifer says:

    Hey there!

Is the bed frame color antique bronze on wayfair? The color is so misleading on their site.

  2. Jordan says:

Hi there! The links changed again on the bedframe.. can you share the name of it! I’m dying to
    Know!

  3. Mary says:

Please tell me where you got your sconces in guest room.

  4. Karmen Webster says:

What Black Iron bed did you get on Wayfair? When I go under the link, it pulls multiple images up. Thank you

  5. Sara says:

Would you mind sharing the name of the bed on Wayfair? The link is taking me to a page with several options. Is it the Matheney Platform Bed or the Cavailon Panel Bed or something else? Thank you!

  6. Amanda says:

Hi! I couldn’t get the link to the drum pendant light fixture to pull up? Would you mind sharing which fixture you bought I am looking for one just like this!

  7. Rose says:

I have had this post in my mind for months–and am finally re-doing a bedroom! I LOVE the bed frame you chose, but I can’t seem to find it now. Any ideas? You guys have impeccable style–love your blog!!

  8. Sarah says:

Do you mind updating the links on this post, am furnishing a spare room and need a lot of these things especially the bed frame!!

  9. Candace L says:

Its all beautiful! When your blinds are down, do you have extra length at the bottom? If so, does it bother you how that looks?

  10. Carly says:

Hi guys! I ordered a bed similar to this one and ended up not loving the color. It was more chocolate brown than black. We returned it and planned to order the one you have, but I have searched your guest room posts and can’t seem to get a link to work for the exact bed you bought. I know that once you guys link things, they tend to sell out, but I thought I would check and see if you had the info. Thanks!

  11. Kate says:

I always admire your bamboo blinds in each room you share and am about to finally pull the trigger on these! Since they aren’t custom, is the length longer than the window for you? Ours are going to have to be and I’m curious if keeping them pulled up slightly to bunch at bottom is that big of a deal. Thanks for your help!

  12. Janelle says:

I was on the fence about ordering this bed frame in the headboard. Your post and review did the trick. So glad we ordered it. It was a great fit, price and easy to put together. Thanks for posting affordable yet stylish options!

  13. Kacie says:

It looks like the boxspring you have in your guest room is a dark color but the link sends to a cream colored one. Did you put something over it? I’ve been on the hunt for a foundation(boxspring) like this but I would prefer the darker color like the one you have. Is the one linked the same?

  14. Ardith says:

This is pretty much a perfect guest room, Julia. Cheers, Ardith

  15. Jessica Eaton says:

Maybe I’m missing something, but can you source your ceiling light fixture?

  16. Sammy says:

love this so much! I think I may have to buy that duvet cover! any recommendation on soft sheets?

  17. Wow, this is such a darling bedroom. I love that frame and may have to add it to the wish list for future projects. What I love even more is the textured roman shades and those light fixtures on either side of the bed! They add so much texture and interest to the room. Definitely found some inspiration here. :D

Also, you know you have a good throw when everyone tries to take it home with them. Haha. Wonderful job!

  18. Barb says:

Beautiful room, Julia! I love the mix of modern and vintage, and the restraint with color. Thanks for showing that good design doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg. Do you consult on design?

  19. Kristen says:

The room looks gorgeous! I love the way it turned out.

  20. It is just fabulous! You did an awesome job of course!!!

  21. Stacey says:

Is the bed frame actually black or is it dark bronze? I know you had to link to a similar one and it seems all the descriptions in seeing are bronze. I’m hoping that it actually looks as black in real life as yours because ????

  22. Diana says:

I’m loving the coverlet! I feel like Urban Outfitters is a hidden gem when it comes to decor. I’ve found some of the best rugs there.

  23. kelly says:

it is beautiful but your pictures are coming up so bright on my computer the objects just look like they are floating. I tried adjusting my screen angle and brightness. I think you over corrected. Or maybe everything is that white?

  24. Janet says:

Looks great! What did you do with Greta’s old bed?

  25. Bonita says:

Beautiful room! I love how well your house style flows so well from room to room. Another amazing job.

  26. Tanja Epners says:

Julia, you knocked this out of the park, again!! It makes me want to jump in the car, drive many hours from Canada and come for a visit. I’ve checked out a few of your links as I want some of those items in my home too.

  27. Brooke says:

Wow, I love everything about this space! Everything you guys touch turns to gold. Amazing!

  28. I am in LOVE with the duvet you chose and the coverlet. This room looks absolutely stunning!
    Best,
    Kelly

  29. Mara Smith says:

As always, the room is perfection!

That is such a great price for those green velvet pillows! I never purchased anything from Lulu and Georgia before because in the past I found their prices to be a little steep, but these are definitely going in the cart!

  30. Amanda says:

I really like the layers and layers of texture. Fleece, velvet, faux fur. And I have my eye on that coverlet!

  31. elizabeth says:

What a sweet guest space! I love how serene and calming the room is. It looks like room a guest would never want to leave! I LOVE the forest picture as well!

  32. Allie says:

Hi! Where is the basket next to the bed from? I am looking for the exact same thing for my living room! Thanks!

  33. beth says:

I am curious where the on switch is for the bed lamps. thanks.

  34. Lindseay says:

Lovely space! Such a great bed. One question– it looks like it’s a flannel duvet, not a fleece one? :)

  35. Emily says:

I love it! This might be a broad question…but how the heck do you find the perfect products for the vision you have for the room? Just do a lot of browsing on websites, or do you have something particular in mind and then search for that particular thing? Does that make sense? I get so overwhelmed and am always so grateful when my favorite bloggers do source lists. Like right now, rug options are killing me, haha. I already bought our blue crate and barrel rug via your blog!

  36. Kimberly says:

Stunning! I especially love the green pillows and that forest picture.

  37. It looks great, guys! The bedding looks so comfy in the pictures; I bet it is even more so in person. So sweet that it reminds you of your grandma’s house. I have several items in my home that do the same, and they make me happy. <3 I also love the print hanging on the wall right when you walk in the room. And WHY have I never thought to have a luggage rack in a guest bedroom?? Genius.

  38. Kelly says:

Bummer, the link to the bed frame doesn’t come up with anything. That’s just what I’ve been looking to put in our guest room, but am always leery of the quality of most I’ve found that don’t cost an arm and a leg. Love the new room! Thanks for sharing!
