That’s a Wrap on Guest Room 2.0

Our guest room is finished! We’re excited to show you a bunch of photos today and I’ve linked all the sources at the very bottom of the post for you, too. This was a pretty simple, straightforward makeover with just paint and some new furnishings and accessories mixed in with a few things we already had. We needed to finish before our families arrived for the holiday and we were thrilled we got all the main elements in place before our guests arrived and put the finishing touches (I finally found the perfect curtains!) in place just last week.

You might remember this room used be Greta’s old room (the before from when we moved in is below) until we finished the bunk room in the next room over last fall, which used to be the guest room. Essentially, the rooms have now officially swapped and all is well in the house again.

The bed frame was a steal, which allowed a little extra funds to go toward some good, textural bedding–but even that was on sale.

Texture on texture is a big trend that I’m loving right now, and the nubby coverlet reminded me so much of the one my grandma used to have on her bed. I paired it with the softest flannel duvet cover (My sister who stayed with us asked me where I got it because she wanted one for her bed at home!–that’s just what you want to hear as a host, right?).

Opposite the bed, we hung a large 36″ round mirror (that I wouldn’t mind hanging in a few other places around the house, stunning), a luggage rack, and a few decorative pieces like those faux antlers that make the room feel more lived in.

When we gave a sneak peek of the guest room a few weeks ago, we had a few questions about a boxspring because this bed frame does call for one. I’ve never understood why boxsprings are so large and especially in our home, where we have standard 8 ft ceilings, super tall beds just take up too much visual space. So, I was pleasantly surprised to find a boxspring that was just 4-5 inches and upholstered nicely at a local mattress store (I linked one similar in the sources at the bottom of the post). You can see the charcoal color peeking out of the frame in the photo below.

The very last element we added to the room were these light heather gray curtains. I have been on the hunt for good gray curtains that weren’t so solid but had a little bit of movement and texture to them. I’m so happy with these! They are lined and thick and come in multiple sizes–I ordered the 96″ length…naturally. ;)

Maybe it’s because Chris and I both come from large families, or that we live in a pretty remote part of the country that when you come to town, you probably need a place to stay–but we seem to always be happily welcoming people into our home. And it feels so good to have a place for them to hopefully feel comfortable with us.

Bummer, the link to the bed frame doesn’t come up with anything. That’s just what I’ve been looking to put in our guest room, but am always leery of the quality of most I’ve found that don’t cost an arm and a leg. Love the new room! Thanks for sharing!

It looks great, guys! The bedding looks so comfy in the pictures; I bet it is even more so in person. So sweet that it reminds you of your grandma’s house. I have several items in my home that do the same, and they make me happy. <3 I also love the print hanging on the wall right when you walk in the room. And WHY have I never thought to have a luggage rack in a guest bedroom?? Genius.

I love it! This might be a broad question…but how the heck do you find the perfect products for the vision you have for the room? Just do a lot of browsing on websites, or do you have something particular in mind and then search for that particular thing? Does that make sense? I get so overwhelmed and am always so grateful when my favorite bloggers do source lists. Like right now, rug options are killing me, haha. I already bought our blue crate and barrel rug via your blog!

Lovely space! Such a great bed. One question– it looks like it’s a flannel duvet, not a fleece one? :)

I really like the layers and layers of texture. Fleece, velvet, faux fur. And I have my eye on that coverlet!

As always, the room is perfection!

That is such a great price for those green velvet pillows! I never purchased anything from Lulu and Georgia before because in the past I found their prices to be a little steep, but these are definitely going in the cart!

  • I am in LOVE with the duvet you chose and the coverlet. This room looks absolutely stunning!

Julia, you knocked this out of the park, again!! It makes me want to jump in the car, drive many hours from Canada and come for a visit. I’ve checked out a few of your links as I want some of those items in my home too.

We gave it to our dear friends who have a little girl–she’ll love it as much as we did, I’m sure!

it is beautiful but your pictures are coming up so bright on my computer the objects just look like they are floating. I tried adjusting my screen angle and brightness. I think you over corrected. Or maybe everything is that white?

I’m loving the coverlet! I feel like Urban Outfitters is a hidden gem when it comes to decor. I’ve found some of the best rugs there.

Is the bed frame actually black or is it dark bronze? I know you had to link to a similar one and it seems all the descriptions in seeing are bronze. I’m hoping that it actually looks as black in real life as yours because 😍

Beautiful room, Julia! I love the mix of modern and vintage, and the restraint with color. Thanks for showing that good design doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg. Do you consult on design?

Wow, this is such a darling bedroom. I love that frame and may have to add it to the wish list for future projects. What I love even more is the textured roman shades and those light fixtures on either side of the bed! They add so much texture and interest to the room. Definitely found some inspiration here. :D

Also, you know you have a good throw when everyone tries to take it home with them. Haha. Wonderful job!

It looks like the boxspring you have in your guest room is a dark color but the link sends to a cream colored one. Did you put something over it? I’ve been on the hunt for a foundation(boxspring) like this but I would prefer the darker color like the one you have. Is the one linked the same?
