Title: Ep 25: Storage Units, Asymmetry, and What We Screwed Up
Game: Awkward Thanksgiving
Show Notes: The gang discusses Julia’s love/hate relationship with storage units and the Marcum’s new upstairs bathroom. For our reader email, Julia breaks down the best way to handle and design around asymmetrical features already existing in a home.
We accidentally have an impromptu sound effect battle before introducing a new segment, “What We Screwed Up This Week”. And lastly, instead of a Hot Topic, we break down questions to NOT ask at thanksgiving dinner this week.

Our wood grain Shaker cabinet fronts were designed for busy, high-traffic homes like ours. Clad with durable textured thermofoils, this line is compatible with Sektion, Akurum, Godmorgon, and Besta cabinets from IKEA. It's the perfect, practical way to add the warmth of wood to all the rooms of your home.
We have teamed up with Loloi to create a line of rugs that are as affordable as they are beautiful. This collection houses a great mix of traditional and modern rugs, in cottage-y colorways, as well as vintage-inspired beauties that you’ll want to roll out in every room.
We partnered with Stuga on a line of hardwood floors — The Ingrid is really livable, and the color is very neutral. It doesn’t lean warm or cool, it’s that just right in-between. We have really loved putting it everywhere in our house. It’s the best jumping-off point for design, no matter your interior style. In addition to being beautiful, Ingrid is really durable — we have three kids, and we always have a home construction project going on. Ingrid stands up to it all.

A reader recently asked me if I’m starting to fully embrace traditional style and whether we still consider our house to be a “modern Colonial” and why. It was a really great question and so timely — I had really just been thinking about my approach to this home and how my style has changed […]

I’m listening to your backlog, and I’m dying. So hilarious. Also, my husband proposed to me at my mom’s Thanksgiving dinner. So, this was REALLY funny to me.
Sitting at my desk at work with tears running down my face… the sound effects were the best!! First when Preston did the horses… and when Chris called it an octopus running on land… NAILED IT! Thank you for making my (every-other) Monday!
Have you guys considered buying a storage shed for your property? We just bought a 10×16 that has a loft in it so that we can store our riding mower, outdoor furniture when not in use, etc.
We HAD a big shed, but we felt it took up too much space on our property a couple years ago and downgraded to a smaller one. (the irony!)
We literally just got rid of our storage unit this weekend! We’ve been remodeling our house for the last 4 years so we needed somewhere to store everything. Now it’s so nice not having to pay that bill every month and actually being able to use our things that I forgot we even had! BTW I get so much inspiration from everything you guys do, my husband on the other hand gets really tired of me saying “LOOK WHAT CHRIS LOVES JULIA DID IN THEIR HOUSE!!”
Could you add a “Show Notes” tab on your website so everything from your podcast is in one place? It’d be super helpful! Love the podcast! Chris and Preston are especially funny and love Julia’s advice!
Can’t wait to listen. Your cover photo has been my inspiration pic for my asymetrical fireplace…..still struggling with it
one question, you mention doing interviews with someone else’s podcast. whose podcast is that? i’d like to check them out.
Young House Love Has a Podcast. :)
love your podcast! i’ve been listening at work and it makes my day go by so much faster. I also like the dynamic created by having Prestin in there. You sound like great people, excited to hear what you get into next!
OMG — i was laughing hysterically in the elevator listening to your sound effect battle and got QUITE the stares from my fellow passengers. Thanks for making me laugh — and also the information on DIY, of course.
