This week I found myself shifting things around in the entry seen above. We moved that large print seen above the bench into the reading room. And if you remember from the video tour we did last week, I had moved the Edward Hopper print that was in the reading room, into the entry and then ultimately at the bottom of the stairs. It was then I realized that art never really worked on the main wall in the entry. It’s right across from the huge stairwell window and more often than not it’s just glare city. So I started thinking, a mirror would do wonders on that wall, bouncing all sorts of light around. I started looking for a mirror that would fit over the new bench I stumbled across while in TJMaxx. We did kind of need a new bench. THEN, I found the perfect super long, vintage runner from thevintagerugshop.com to layer over our FLOR carpet squares–an idea I’ve had for a good 6 months. I’m still brainstorming what (art? more hooks?) to add to the wallpapered wall and trying not to think of just how many times I’ve fiddled with the entry–are we on 3 or 4? We’ll have some visual progress for you soon enough. (If you’re local and interested in our former entry/coffee table bench, we’re selling it for $50.)
More fun things this week!
With my nephew staying with us and our nanny here during the days, the four of us have decided to have sit down lunches together and it has been so nice to breakaway from our different tasks and sit down for a meal and chat mid-day. So it’s not another meal to plan or shop for, we’ve been making Blue Apron meals! It’s cheaper than all of us going out for lunch, a lot healthier and we can even take turns making it since all the directions are easy to follow and the ingredients are portioned. It’s such a highlight and keeps us all productive for the rest of the day. If you haven’t tried Blue Apron, click here to try three free meals on us with your first order.
Tessa Neustadt is the insanely talented interiors photographer that probably photographed a lot of your favorite blogger’s spaces and projects. So when I came across her site this week, with the whole portfolio in one place, I just sat and drooled for a good 20 minutes. Definitely one to check out.
Prettiest lazy susan/center piece /serving tray ever, and it feels so perfect for the fall/winter season.
Ikea sells a set of its Billy bookcases every 10 seconds and one in 10 Europeans is conceived in an Ikea bed.
A long cardigan for me and a long, fluffy one for the girls (Greta’s gonna flip!)
How To Pick a Color Palette That Will Pull Your Home Together
The ever adorable and desired Riley Play Table is half off (which is basically unheard of). Even though we have the big craft table in the playroom, I’m considering getting this one for the girls’ room–so simple and stylish.
Have a happy fall weekend!
Our wood grain Shaker cabinet fronts were designed for busy, high-traffic homes like ours. Clad with durable textured thermofoils, this line is compatible with Sektion, Akurum, Godmorgon, and Besta cabinets from IKEA. It's the perfect, practical way to add the warmth of wood to all the rooms of your home.
We have teamed up with Loloi to create a line of rugs that are as affordable as they are beautiful. This collection houses a great mix of traditional and modern rugs, in cottage-y colorways, as well as vintage-inspired beauties that you’ll want to roll out in every room.
We partnered with Stuga on a line of hardwood floors — The Ingrid is really livable, and the color is very neutral. It doesn’t lean warm or cool, it’s that just right in-between. We have really loved putting it everywhere in our house. It’s the best jumping-off point for design, no matter your interior style. In addition to being beautiful, Ingrid is really durable — we have three kids, and we always have a home construction project going on. Ingrid stands up to it all.

A reader recently asked me if I’m starting to fully embrace traditional style and whether we still consider our house to be a “modern Colonial” and why. It was a really great question and so timely — I had really just been thinking about my approach to this home and how my style has changed […]

What is the wallpaper on the wall in your entryway?
It’s from hygge and west
Why not a non-glass-framed piece of art? A nice fabric or woven hanging?
I love your FLOR carpet tiles! I need something for my entry and was wondering what style and color you have? Is it “suit yourself?” It looks like it, but the site doesn’t offer anything in that light color you have. Thanks Julia!! Love love love following your work….gorgeous!!!

This is the linen color.
Love the new rug I saw on Instagram and the new bench. I noticed recently that you guys don’t seem to do much vintage in your house (that I can think of). Have you ever posted about that? Like, your preference for new over old. Of course you’re DIYing all over the place, so it’s not all off the shelf, but I’d love to read your thoughts about making a home feel eclectic, personal, and not straight out of a catalog without relying on flea markets and thrift stores.
We do have some vintage pieces (we have 4 vintage rugs, our nightstands, our piano was Chris’s great grandmothers and a few pillows and throws) and I’d love to add more but unfortunately we don’t have hardly any resources where we live. We went antiquing for a date night a couple weeks back and found the cutest antique barn filled to the brim, but there wasn’t a lot of quality pieces inside. :/ Always looking.
I understand that dilemma! I’m just impressed that your home looks as gathered and natural as a home full of one-of-a-kinds, while having to rely on the online shopping world.
Hello! I live in Boise, but will be coming through next weekend. Either Thursday evening, or Sunday mid morning/afternoon on our way to/from Jackson Hole. I’d love to buy the entry bench if it’s still available and you don’t mind holding it for a week. I can Paypal you ahead of time if you prefer. Thanks!

I didn’t know that you both worked from home. Have you ever done a post about how you make that work? My husband and I both work from home and it is sometimes chaotic. I would love to hear your tips.
We have a day in the life post coming up next week. :)
Oh! Can’t wait to read it! I’m a nanny and both my bosses work from home. I find it so hard to keep the girls quiet when they’re on phone calls ? Maybe your nanny has advice??
That tiny table is darling!!
That BR sweater is yummy! Thanks for linking :)
Blast, I’d love to be local! I really like that bench!
Thanks for the link to the color palate article! It really got me thinking–looking around my apartment, it seems I have very few color repeats! Perhaps this is what makes the space feel not quite right…
Does Chris work at home aswell?
Yes! He is an independent marketing consultant.
I thought he was a chef, no?
He has a culinary degree but he just cooks for fun now. :)
lol what a fancy name for someone whose job description probably involves looking for affiliates for this blog :)
Chris definitely helps out with the blog and if you’ve been reading for at least a week, you know that he always has, but really only on the project end of things. I take photos, write 99% of the blog posts and link everything. He is really good at his marketing job that he has had for 7 years now and that’s his focus during the days, Olivia.
