Befores, afters, mood boards, plans, failures, wins. We’ve done a lot of projects, and they’re all here.

We have a long-standing relationship with DIY, and love rolling our sleeves up and making it happen.

Even when you don’t want to rip down a wall, you can make that space in your home better. Right now.

Remember that kitchen in Pittsburgh we renovated in June? Well, renovating a kitchen in 6 days was only half the fun, keeping it hidden from the homeowners (my aunt and uncle and their three children) was my favorite part. Today we’re so excited to share with you a fun video from Frigidaire Professional of when we were finally able to reveal the kitchen for the first time to the homeowners.

Revealing the Pittsburgh Kitchen to the Family

While they lived in the house the entire week, we renovated the kitchen and tarped it off so they couldn’t see it (besides their 16 year old son who was so eager to help) until the big reveal day.

It was a very special moment with lots of tears, hugs and cheers — there’s nothing like the smell of fresh chocolate chip cookies in a brand new kitchen!

Since coming home, we received a nice note from the Worrall family expressing how much this renovation meant to them and their family, and how enjoyable even cleaning the kitchen is, which is pretty much the best mail we could receive.  The appliances have added so much functionality they never knew they were missing, and all those extra details that Frigidaire has mastered is what really turns a kitchen from the place you prepare your food into a place where you want to spend your time. We’re sending our photographer back to get some seasonal shots as the seasons change, but if you didn’t catch all the before and afters, brace yourself, and check this post out. You can also find the budget breakdown of the kitchen here and the full renovation video here.

Special thanks to commercial photographer (and my sister!), Andrea Ahedo, for being our videographer while we were on location. See more of her beautiful work here.

I wish we could have heard what they said! Still in love with the kitchen :)

    Hi Chris and Julia!

I love the Pittsburgh kitchen. You guys did an amazing job designing the space and putting it together in such a short amount of time. I’m in Pittsburgh too and my hubby and I just upgraded our appliances after being renters for a decade and truly, new (modern and working!) appliances make such a difference in a space and making it feel like you want to spend time there.

Also the cookies and flowers in the sink were a cute touch.

I love your guys’ podcast and listen to it while I do my own house projects. I love that you said, you don’t have to wait for your husband or a man to start doing projects. just that has changed my point of view and I’ve been a renovating storm since. Thank you for the daily inspiration.

    xoxo

A reader recently asked me if I’m starting to fully embrace traditional style and whether we still consider our house to be a “modern Colonial” and why. It was a really great question and so timely — I had really just been thinking about my approach to this home and how my style has changed […]
