We got a new toy, I mean tool–the CONAIR Turbo ExtremeSteam® Handheld Fabric Steamer–the most powerful handheld steamer on the market. Being someone that loathes ironing so much I only have a handful of shirts that need ironing ever, I knew it wouldn’t get a ton of action in the laundry room. However, I’m still here to announce, every home tool arsenal needs one of these for a few really good reasons.

1. Our sofa has never been more fresh. Running the steamer over our upholstered furniture has given it new life! The steam deodorizes and sanitizes without using any chemicals. Our couch is brighter than ever and I never have to pay to have it professionally cleaned again! (It costs less than one upholstery cleaning, anyway!)

2. No more ironing home linens. It’s better to have no curtains than wrinkled curtains in my book. Which is saying a lot because I think curtains add such a softness to a space. I used to dread washing ours, procrastinating it probably longer than I should, so that I wouldn’t have to crank out the ironing board and settle in for a long ironing session. Now I just hang them up and do a few passes and they are wrinkle free. The same is true for our cloth napkins, pillows and bed linens–I’ll be honest, I’ve never ironed an entire sheet, but having the part that folds over straight and crisp brings me so much joy.

3. Protect against bed bugs and dust mites. This steamer gets so hot (50% hotter than other steamers), it can actually kill bed bugs and dust mites just by going over your mattress with it. And if you don’t have that problem–don’t google bed bugs! You’ll never be able to sleep again! Just keep occasionally steaming your mattress and you’ll be protected against that nightmare in the future. Read more about our mattress right here. (psst-still love it)

4. Lastly, it actually is top notch at getting wrinkles out of clothing, no matter how delicate or stubborn. It only takes 40 seconds to heat up and a few more to steam the item–no ironing boarded needed. Which by my calculations is SO much faster and economical than letting the shower attempt to steam out your outfit of the day (guilty).

What do you think?

  1. Lori says:

Omg I’m so sorry, I didn’t realize that you already answered me! ????????????Thank you for the response!!!!????

  2. Lori says:

In your opinion, would this replace a regular iron??? Have you ever done pants with it??? Love the blog!

  3. Lori says:

Would this replace an iron permanently for you?

  4. Conair steamer has always been a trusted partner. The freshness of the clothes, drapes, bed lining and what not… It’s amazing!

  5. Holly Edwards says:

My current hand held steamer doesn’t allow me to hold the steamer horizontally, or the water spills out. I always have to hold it upright. In the photo of the sofa, you have it held horizontally…does that work okay? No water spills? If so, that would be a game changer for me!

  6. I have to love especially how to you coverd your clothes benefit of using a clothes steamer. Also the pro-tip at the end is awesome.

  7. Pam says:

Thanks for this! I have been thinking of getting a steamer lately and didn’t know which one to buy. Unfortunately, we no longer have Target in Canada, but I was able to purchase it at amazon.ca!

  8. Julie says:

Such great information Julia! I’m thinking of purchasing this just to clean my sofa. In the post it says that you “never have to pay to have it professionally cleaned again.” Does it actually get stains out? I dont want to waste my money if that isn’t the case.

  9. Kristin says:

Great post! We have light coloured couch as well and it has many stains from 2 boys. I’m wondering how it actually cleans the couch?

  10. Sarah says:

Our iron is on its last legs and I was dreading having to replace it since it’s not my fave thing in the world. Glad to hear there’s an (easier) alternative!

  11. Jamie says:

Ok, when I saw the title of this post, I was all “meh, boring, don’t need a steamer” …. and now I am all “HOLY COW I NEED A STEAMER IN MY LIFE!” Hahah. So kudos! ;)

    • Lara says:

I thought the exact same thing and am now going to place an order for one! I was trying to figure out how to get rid of our ironing board and now I’ve found a way!!

    • Darcy says:

My reaction as well — I never knew I needed a steamer! I am wondering how it gets stains out (of my couch – 2 boys = a stained couch)!

      • Lucy says:

Does it actaully gets stains and dirt marks out of a sofa ? Do I just run the steamer across the sofa and then it’s cleaned ,or do I need to wipe out the dirt after steaming , or is there a sofa attachment head needed ? And how long does it usually take for the sofa to “dry “? Thanks so much

      • Julia says:

This just sanitizes and gets out wrinkles. It will help to lift stains but won’t get stains out itself. The sofa never feels wet. Just a little steamy.

    • Haley says:

hahaha, I was thinking the same thing. I think it’s the couch part that makes me want it… I could care less if my clothes are wrinkly.

  12. Britni says:

I’ve been using a Conair steamer forever (just got the same one you have because my puppy ate the old one Ughhh) and it is the absolute best! I haven’t used my iron in years and steam all of my furniture too!
