We believe we should all love where we live.

We’re a couple of homebodies, working to uncover the home our home wants to be. And we’re so happy to have you here.

Befores, afters, mood boards, plans, failures, wins. We’ve done a lot of projects, and they’re all here.

We have a long-standing relationship with DIY, and love rolling our sleeves up and making it happen.

Even when you don’t want to rip down a wall, you can make that space in your home better. Right now.

Father’s Day is on Sunday! Which means there’s just enough time to order something for that special guy in your life and his dad and your dad–at least that’s how it works around here–and have it delivered by Saturday. A few weeks ago, we bought Chris an Apple watch (which he couldn’t love more) from my nephew and he promised that counts as his father’s day. But here are a few things that I know he’d also love (and some he already has and couldn’t recommend more).

Father's-Day-Gift-Guide

  1. This half apron is rugged, durable and Chris wears it all the time (you can see it peeking through in our blog profile photo). The dark denim hides stains and the large pockets are perfect for holding the meat thermometer when he’s grill side. He also loves that the ties are long enough to tie in the front, which for some reason feels more manly, I guess. $22
  2. This beard trimmer allows you to achieve the perfect amount of stubble. It has changed Chris’s life and I think it’s been on every man gift guide we’ve made since he got it 3 years ago–which is exactly how long it’s been since he’s picked up a razor. $49
  3. Cool solar system art for his office $19+
  4. The most comfortable, lightweight pair of flip flops. Chris lives in these until he wears a hole in them and then buys another pair the next year. $11
  5. In college, Chris frequently wore a t-shirt that said, “More like Radminton” and I finally got him a badminton set to go with it. Surprisingly (or not so surprisingly?) so, so much fun. $41
  6. You aren’t a dad until you own a pair of sweatshorts$8
  7. The best fitting button down in a pattern you’ll both go nuts over. $39
  8. A stud finder with over 2000 nearly 5 star reviews. So, no more of that frustration. $50
  9. The Amazon Echo does everything from playing all your favorite music through voice command (from across the room!) to turning off light switches, ordering pizza, answers questions, holds your schedule and thousands of more things. It’s the robot for your home he has always wanted. $179
  10. This Dremel is the tool every household needs. We have one, we bought one for the Long Island family, we bought one for the kitchen we just wrapped up and now we’re buying each of our dad’s one for this father’s day. It’s incredibly handy and versatile. $79
  11. A book to give him permission to be a little dangerous with the kids. (I’m covering my eyes!) $13
  12. We got this small pressure washer a couple weeks ago and Chris has been washing everything, including the deck multiple times a week. It’s the perfect gift. $145

Hope this gives you some great ideas! Another tried and true gift is an updated framed photo of the kids–we do that one every year.

The author of the book, Gever Tully, also has a video on youtube and TED about this topic. I find it so interesting and it has many great points! (plus its free)

  4. Ben says:

I totally thought that #1 was a kilt. But great list! As a dad, I think all of these would be great or I already own them.

  5. Kerry H says:

One of the best gift lists I’ve seen in a long time! Practical and affordable – love it! Thank you!!

A reader recently asked me if I’m starting to fully embrace traditional style and whether we still consider our house to be a “modern Colonial” and why. It was a really great question and so timely — I had really just been thinking about my approach to this home and how my style has changed […]
