Befores, afters, mood boards, plans, failures, wins. We’ve done a lot of projects, and they’re all here.

We have a long-standing relationship with DIY, and love rolling our sleeves up and making it happen.

Even when you don’t want to rip down a wall, you can make that space in your home better. Right now.

This is the story of a shed–our 10×14 shed that sits on one side of our house–or used to until last week. And if you follow me on Instagram, you already knows how the story ends…kind of.

Since our kitchen looks out on this side yard (and will even more once we add the other window that’s in the plans), it seems like the perfect spot for a play set for the girls. Not to mention, this shed takes us so much space and is really too big for our needs. (We have plans to build a much smaller shed on the other side of our yard in the future.) My parents, who moved next door at the beginning of this year, expressed interest in our shed and we took that as our opportunity to clear out the space for a play set one day. The only thing is, we’ve learned, you can’t really just move a shed. Sure, you can take the whole thing apart and put it back together—hours and hours and hours–which after many calls seemed like that was what was going to have to happen. And then my father in law referred us to a crane service that moved a trailer of theirs last year thinking maybe they could move a shed too? and–boom–we had ourselves an appointment last Thursday with a crane.

Our neighbors set out chairs in their front yard and watched the whole thing go down. And I, of course, filmed the whole thing in case you’re interested, too!

Here’s how it looks in its new home on my parents’ property:

So cozy! And here’s what’s left on our side:

Ha! This looks really rough and there’s hours of work left to do before we’re even ready to start looking at play sets, but is a step in the right direction for us. For those interested, the crane company charged $110 an hour with a minimum of 2 hours. It took just about an hour to move the shed, but we still consider $220 a steal for the job done.

Ps. Tomorrow we are officially launching the eBooks Chris Loves Wings, Chris Loves Tacos and Chris Loves Burgers!! We are so excited to share these with you. Can’t wait!

I’m positive I remember you guys having a swing set for greta that magically walked off your lawn one day. Am I right?

  5. Kensley says:

Last January we had a hot tub removed from our backyard! The only way out was with a crane over the fence!! I was absolutely terrified watching it just dangle in mid air!

  6. Trilby C. says:

Ok, that was REALLY cool. :D My boys would have been out in your street with lawn chairs and popcorn, watching the show. We have construction going on in our neighborhood daily (new builds) and I frequently find myself mesmerized by the big machinery.

  7. Watching this go down on Instagram the other day was SO intense.

A reader recently asked me if I’m starting to fully embrace traditional style and whether we still consider our house to be a “modern Colonial” and why. It was a really great question and so timely — I had really just been thinking about my approach to this home and how my style has changed […]
