We finished up the Pugmire’s laundry room this week (and just started tearing into ours–I already can’t wait to be on the other side) and it is absolutely lovely. I can’t wait to share photos with you hopefully Monday if I can get the green light from Wayfair. After everything was in place, I felt like it needed something a little personal–as every space does. I went on Corine’s instagram and selected a bunch of photos and had them printed using Social Print Studio. There are a hundred ways to display instagram photos, but for this room, I wanted it to be simple, straight and clean.
A swagged string wouldn’t really fit into the vibe of the space, and I worried that I wouldn’t be able to get wire taut enough that it wouldn’t swag either. While in Ace Hardware, I discovered these ultra thin metal dowels–1/8″ and they worked perfectly!
Materials Needed:
1/8″ metal dowels
5/8″ screw eyes
mini clothes pins (a nod to the laundry room)
Tiny drill bit
level
photos
First we marked all of our holes for the screw eyes using a level with a ruler on one edge. You don’t always have to do a pilot hole for screw eyes, but since these were so small, we didn’t want to risk trying to screw the eyes in and struggling and then the hole gets bigger and loose and…you know! A tiny (the tiniest!) drill bit to make a pilot hole guided the screw eyes in without any trouble.
The dowel just slides right in, clip on your photos and your done. Did this post even need words? Maybe not.
We hung 3 straight rows on either side of where their wood burning stove sits. There were also 1/8″ brass dowels at Ace (for double the price) that I was so tempted to snag, but the black fit in with the industrial pipe shelving in the room and it was the right choice for in here. Definitely logging the brass option away for later though. How pretty would that be?! Can’t wait to share more photos next week. Have the best weekend!

Our wood grain Shaker cabinet fronts were designed for busy, high-traffic homes like ours. Clad with durable textured thermofoils, this line is compatible with Sektion, Akurum, Godmorgon, and Besta cabinets from IKEA. It's the perfect, practical way to add the warmth of wood to all the rooms of your home.
We have teamed up with Loloi to create a line of rugs that are as affordable as they are beautiful. This collection houses a great mix of traditional and modern rugs, in cottage-y colorways, as well as vintage-inspired beauties that you’ll want to roll out in every room.
We partnered with Stuga on a line of hardwood floors — The Ingrid is really livable, and the color is very neutral. It doesn’t lean warm or cool, it’s that just right in-between. We have really loved putting it everywhere in our house. It’s the best jumping-off point for design, no matter your interior style. In addition to being beautiful, Ingrid is really durable — we have three kids, and we always have a home construction project going on. Ingrid stands up to it all.

A reader recently asked me if I’m starting to fully embrace traditional style and whether we still consider our house to be a “modern Colonial” and why. It was a really great question and so timely — I had really just been thinking about my approach to this home and how my style has changed […]

Love this idea! I’m racking my brain to try and figure out where I can this in my house!
So kute. Easy to do and look very nice. I will do one for my house. Thank you.
I love this idea. Saving it for later!
Thank you! I have a short wall section (3.5 feet wide) that I want to display my kids art on, but have been having the same issues – I worry that string or wire will sag and also be difficult to get stretched evenly. But this seems much easier to work with. Now just to keep my kids from pulling it out of the wall.
Very cute idea! Where do you find such tiny clothes pins? Great job. Have a great weekend.
I’ve seen them a few places. I got these at our local craft store, Porter’s.
One of my favorite piece of the whole space. I LOVE the tiny clothes pin. So fitting for the laundry room. Im just obsessed with it all! I wish people could hold them im real life. They are so well printed, the paper is sturdy and matte and they are beautiful! Thank you, forever!
Lovely! What section of the hardware store can you find the metal dowels?
Emma, I found these in Ace Hardware near the lumber section. Hope this helps!
(Not sure if my first attempt to comment went through…browser crashed as I submitted it.)
Great idea! I might have to borrow this idea for our upcoming laundry/mudroom makeover. Just curious…did you/they consider spraying the screw eyes black or ORB’ing them to make them blend in a tad more? Not that there’s anything wrong with a little contrast in the world. :)
Sorry about the comment trouble, Anne! Honestly these eyes are so tiny in real life, you can barely see them. But we have a lot of nickel accents in the room, too, so they make sense in the context. You could always spray them if you wanted, for sure!
Ahh, good point (about them being so small in real life). Can’t wait to see the whole room!
We’re going to be doing something similar to this in my daughters dorm room this fall (she’ll be a freshman). We can’t screw anything into the walls, so I think we’ll try it with those fastners that stick to the walls and hope that will work. The hard part is narrowing down her pictures! :-)
I feel your pain. I picked 48 photos for this project and could have easily doubled that!
