Befores, afters, mood boards, plans, failures, wins. We’ve done a lot of projects, and they’re all here.

We have a long-standing relationship with DIY, and love rolling our sleeves up and making it happen.

Even when you don’t want to rip down a wall, you can make that space in your home better. Right now.

It’s been over 18 months since I added abstract flats to the Etsy shop and it felt it was about time. I think it is important to have something on your walls that is just for you. That’s one-of-a-kind. That has real paint on it. Art can (and will!) not only change the way a room feels, but the way you feel about a room. In 2012 I started painting these abstract flats–paintings on unstretched canvas, ready to frame–in an effort to bring art to as many homes as possible for an affordable price.

These paintings, although smaller than my 24x30s or 24x36s that you are accustom to seeing in the shop, will still provide your space with lots of interest–at a fraction of the cost. They are ready to be framed when they arrive at your home. And speaking of shipping, the canvas flats also cut down on shipping fees because they can easily be rolled up and shipped in a sturdy tube. Win! Check out the newest 10 up for grabs below or click here to head to the shop.

What do you think?

I just discovered your paintings and went reading through old blog posts to one where you talked about using off colour paint samples from hardware stores. Normally I paint in oil or acrylic but on a small scale (4×6 or smaller) but this year I’m going to attempt a huge 36×60 abstract and wanted to know your thoughts on painting with the typical acrylic wall paint, does it dry too fast to alter and blend on a canvas?

Julia, these are absolutely beautiful. Have you ever thought about teaching an art class? Or even better, filming an art class and posting it to the blog? I have wanted to learn how to oil paint for so long now, but not quite sure where to get started. I love how your emotions come out through your art work!

  3. Carol says:

These are beautiful, as always! I’m particularly drawn to the one in the second row on the left. While it’s not in the budget right now, I am determined to someday own a piece by you. Great work!

You took the words out of my mouth Carol. Milk money this month has already been allocated to an essential oils kit :)

A reader recently asked me if I’m starting to fully embrace traditional style and whether we still consider our house to be a “modern Colonial” and why. It was a really great question and so timely — I had really just been thinking about my approach to this home and how my style has changed […]
