The air is getting cooler here in Idaho. Already! The farmers are all getting ready to harvest and some have even started. Did you know that the schools here in Idaho are out of school for a week or so at the end of September for potato harvest?? A lot of the kids, of all ages, help with the harvesting. Chris has so many stories of “driving truck” and is still close with the farmers he worked for growing up. It’s a magical time of year around here. The sun is golden and warm and it cuts through the crisp air. It all just makes me want to buy candy corn and mix them with honey roasted peanuts. …and paint with metallic gold all day long.
This painting started out with a few coats of deep green, blues and pinks and then got softened with ivories and white and layered on 3 different golds. A lot of depth in this one. It is available for purchase here. Due to its metallic nature, there won’t be prints made.
Have a happy weekend!! We’ll be working on our sliding barn door–can’t wait to show you!
Our wood grain Shaker cabinet fronts were designed for busy, high-traffic homes like ours. Clad with durable textured thermofoils, this line is compatible with Sektion, Akurum, Godmorgon, and Besta cabinets from IKEA. It's the perfect, practical way to add the warmth of wood to all the rooms of your home.
We have teamed up with Loloi to create a line of rugs that are as affordable as they are beautiful. This collection houses a great mix of traditional and modern rugs, in cottage-y colorways, as well as vintage-inspired beauties that you’ll want to roll out in every room.
We partnered with Stuga on a line of hardwood floors — The Ingrid is really livable, and the color is very neutral. It doesn’t lean warm or cool, it’s that just right in-between. We have really loved putting it everywhere in our house. It’s the best jumping-off point for design, no matter your interior style. In addition to being beautiful, Ingrid is really durable — we have three kids, and we always have a home construction project going on. Ingrid stands up to it all.

A reader recently asked me if I’m starting to fully embrace traditional style and whether we still consider our house to be a “modern Colonial” and why. It was a really great question and so timely — I had really just been thinking about my approach to this home and how my style has changed […]

This one is absolutely beautiful! You need to make some more with metallics :) I think you once mentioned filming while you paint so we can see the whole evolution of a painting. Would you still be doing that?
That would be fun! I’ll definitely put that on my list.
Interesting fact about the schools closing down for the potato harvest. I always wondered if having long summer breaks (which originally resulted from needing to let kids help with harvesting) was still relevant and apparently it still is!
This is my favorite by far! So beautiful!
Oh my goodness, Julia!!! THIS is the painting I’ve been waiting for! It is AMAZING!!! I know whoever’s wall it hangs on it will be absolutely beautiful :) I love all of your art, but, oh man, this one… It just speaks. Gorgeous.
Thank you, Thank you!
I love the painting, and I had no idea you need to wet frog tape! I am definitely going to do that! Thanks for the tip!
Oh Julia!! I love this one!! I’m not gonna lie. I’m a little heartbroken you won’t be making prints. I was all ready to snag one. My daughter NEEDS this in her room.
Gold is totally a signature of mine. And, you’re right: Prints just aren’t the same. Metallics rule.
That’s lovely, Julia. Love those underlying greens and blues.
