Idaho Video Tour | Take Two

July 17, 2014

We believe we should all love where we live.

We’re a couple of homebodies, working to uncover the home our home wants to be. And we’re so happy to have you here.

Befores, afters, mood boards, plans, failures, wins. We’ve done a lot of projects, and they’re all here.

We have a long-standing relationship with DIY, and love rolling our sleeves up and making it happen.

Even when you don’t want to rip down a wall, you can make that space in your home better. Right now.

The last time we did a video tour of this home was last September when we moved in. I wish I knew how to do a split-screen because, wow. We love taking videos every so often so we can look back and watch our progress. You can see the first video here.

Chris took the girls for an hour after work so I took that opportunity to film another video for you (and us). Although you’ve seen all of these spaces before, seeing everything in video form, all at once, will hopefully clear up some configurations and layouts we’ve gotten questions about.

We’ve done a lot in 10 months, but we have many large projects still to come: the kitchen, the laundry area, adding a fireplace in the great room, renovating our bedroom and Greta’s, adding more windows, addressing the large media room downstairs–we can’t wait to look back on this video one day and be wowed with progress.

What do you think?

Thanks so much for replying, Julia! Good to hear about your experience.

  2. Ashley says:

Is Greta ever afraid sleeping so far from you?

We don’t have children but are wondering if we should eliminate homes where the master is on a different level than the other bedrooms, thinking that they wouldn’t want to be all the way upstairs while we’re downstairs, for example.

    Thanks!

Our search always included at least 3 rooms on the same floor. In our last house, that was the case and it was so nice. This house has 3 rooms on the same level as well, but they are downstairs. At first, admittedly, we didn’t love the idea of being upstairs when Greta is downstairs, but it has actually worked out great. Her room is directly below ours so we can hear her well through the vents and the staircase is right outside our door so it is a direct shot to her room. I will say she had a bout of anxiety last winter, where she didn’t want to be away from us–ever. Which coineded with re-doing the floors so it worked out with us sleeping downstairs anyway. In a couple years, we’ll move Faye down there with her and I imagine she’ll love it even more. For now though, we’re all sleeping soundly.

Thanks for doing this! It seems like a really livable layout. Can’t wait to see the upcoming changes.

Also, thanks for letting us see your junk room. It makes me feel better about the disarray in my own house while remodeling. ;)

    Charly!!! She’s awesome.

The basement!!!!!!! THE BASEMENT! What a dream space.

  5. Greta is a girl after my own heart – my favorite colors too!

  6. Julia says:

Hahaha! We’re afraid to turn it off now.

  7. Shannon says:

I definitely giggled to myself when I saw the fab on in your bedroom!!! Hehe!

A reader recently asked me if I’m starting to fully embrace traditional style and whether we still consider our house to be a “modern Colonial” and why. It was a really great question and so timely — I had really just been thinking about my approach to this home and how my style has changed […]
