Befores, afters, mood boards, plans, failures, wins. We’ve done a lot of projects, and they’re all here.

We have a long-standing relationship with DIY, and love rolling our sleeves up and making it happen.

Even when you don’t want to rip down a wall, you can make that space in your home better. Right now.

This upcoming weekend we are having a large gathering of family to our house for Faye’s blessing at our church, so we are in overdrive mode trying to tie up loose project ends. This long weekend, I finished painting our cabinets while Chris took to our exterior and tackled a few things that needed attention out there. We have a short checklist of things to get done this week before we welcome our families this weekend and one is our dining room chandelier.

It’s terribly off-centered, nowhere near our style and actually fell down a few months ago. Scary! Since that experience we’ve been browsing fixtures and trying to decide on a style we like. I ended up looking through my dining room pinterest board and instead of looking at the table and chairs–I glanced up at the lighting in place.

The classic drum shade–doubled up–I instantly fell for. I found a couple of drums that would work well in our space, either alone or with two.

Inspired by the linear lines and bare bulbs, I added these to our short list:

Turns out, I have a lot of photos of dining rooms with two fixtures lighting the table, but instead of drums, a couple of pendants.

I love both of these quirky-cool pendants that would look chic and unexpected in a dining setting.

The last pair I tossed into our chandelier-option-pool were these two out-of-the-ordinary ones that felt fresh!

The dining room chandelier is in the center of the great room so we’re definitely looking to make a statement here.

After mulling over all of our favorites, we did choose one and need to center the box and install it. Hopefully we’ll have that reveal for you later this week! Any guesses on which one we chose from above?

All of the lights featured here (a, b, c, d, e, f, g, h) are from Lamps Plus. We’re excited to be partnering with them on this project.

What do you think?

I know this is a terribly old post, but could you possible talk about ways to find a product to purchase when all you have is a picture of it (i.e. the Pinterest conundrum)? I LOVE the table with the purple flowers on it, but have no idea how to find it.

  2. Nayla says:

E is so interesting an unexpected so part of me hopes you picked it. But Loving D and if you’re partnering with them, it’s the choice I’d make. Either way, love them all!

  3. Tami says:

    E! i am intuiting you want shiny…

  4. Barb says:

H, because your table is off center to your light fixture :) Just like mine is!

  5. catalina says:

I love the linear one that is not your option…sorry…however from your options E is gorgeous however if you want something more dramatic H will do and is similar style as the floor lamp you hv there already. Good luck, cant wait to see what you pick.

  6. Marie says:

I think D would definitely modernize the room. Can’t wait to see your final choice.

  7. Lisa | Truelu.com says:

My guesses are: D or G… You guys must be crazy busy–but, always feels nice to get the house ready for guests!

  8. I think you chose E :). Love them all but E is my fave.

  9. jimena says:

    I say F!
    Love E too.

  10. Amy says:

Something tell me B, G & F made it into the finals. Can’t wait to see the progress! :D

  11. Marci Phee says:

I’m betting that you chose E! (And E is my favorite.)

  12. Haley says:

Loving E and G, but you really can’t go wrong with any of them. Can’t wait to see what you pick!

  13. Veronica says:

I love option A. We are looking at the lounge sofa for our living room. We want something cozy, comfy and durable. Are you still happy with your purchase? Does it clean up well? And most importantly can you relax. I like the lounge sofa because it’s still modern. I am concern about the arm rest not being too cozy. Thanks in advance. Good luck getting everything ready for the blessing.

    • Julia says:

We love our Lounge! Absolutely all of the things you said–cozy and durable. It cleans up great with just water. It’s our favorite place to relax, seriously. The only negative, is it isn’t really great to have a formal conversation in. When our parents come over, we always have to stack the pillows behind them so they can sit up in it. It is truly for lounging. Eventually, we plan to move it downstairs when we make that more of a media room. It is still one of our favorite couches ever and in the meantime, we need to get some more pillows!

    • Meggan says:

We also have a Lounge and L-O-V-E it! I ditto everything Julia says, including the part about it really being for lounging. It’s really deep so it can make for some awkwardness for people who visit and don’t want to get THAT comfortable. :) So prop the pillows for sure! I don’t think the arms are too bad actually. And if I ever really want to lay on them, I just prop a pillow down first.

  14. Tanja says:

I really like E and G. I think both would be amazing.

A reader recently asked me if I’m starting to fully embrace traditional style and whether we still consider our house to be a “modern Colonial” and why. It was a really great question and so timely — I had really just been thinking about my approach to this home and how my style has changed […]
