We took a one day break from the floors to recoup, raise morale, and catch our breath. Even though the knee-pads had a rest, the light for baby Lemon (Greta’s name for her little sister) arrived and we were anxious to get it up and get this tinged glass boob light outta there.
You may remember from the mood board I put together a couple months ago, I had my eye on this flower drum shade from Shades of Light.
It comes in two colors–white and off-white. And while I was keen on the pure white, the off-white came with antique brass trim and the white came with satin nickel. We have a few gold touches sprinkled throughout the room like her giant letter art, and the recently revamped ottoman–so that’s definitely the direction we wanted to go over satin nickel. But, BUT, a small little finial’s color is easier to change than a shade. So we ordered the white one with satin nickel detailing and I just spray painted the finial. No big.
Besides that, hanging the light was really straight forward. Or it would have been if it wasn’t for our completely blank breaker box that always keeps us guessing. Really. I am not sure how in 22 years, no one has labeled which circuit is connected to what room?! Little by little, as we tackle different projects, we are labeling them, and once we found the correct switch for the nursery (also connected to the half bath), we flipped it off and it took Chris just a few minutes to hook up the new light.
The new light is pretty and sweet and charming and chic:
While I think the flowery shape lends itself nicely to a nursery, this is definitely a fixture that can grow with our little girl or as this room evolves into other purposes down the road. Goodness I can’t wait to see this room come together in the coming weeks. I still haven’t figured out window treatments, so that’s next on my list. I’m tempted to go with a large-scale pattern–just need to find the right one.
Special thanks to Shades of Light, one of our long-time partners, for sending us their Flower Drum Shade Ceiling Light for the nursery. It’s perfect.
Our wood grain Shaker cabinet fronts were designed for busy, high-traffic homes like ours. Clad with durable textured thermofoils, this line is compatible with Sektion, Akurum, Godmorgon, and Besta cabinets from IKEA. It's the perfect, practical way to add the warmth of wood to all the rooms of your home.
We have teamed up with Loloi to create a line of rugs that are as affordable as they are beautiful. This collection houses a great mix of traditional and modern rugs, in cottage-y colorways, as well as vintage-inspired beauties that you’ll want to roll out in every room.
We partnered with Stuga on a line of hardwood floors — The Ingrid is really livable, and the color is very neutral. It doesn’t lean warm or cool, it’s that just right in-between. We have really loved putting it everywhere in our house. It’s the best jumping-off point for design, no matter your interior style. In addition to being beautiful, Ingrid is really durable — we have three kids, and we always have a home construction project going on. Ingrid stands up to it all.

A reader recently asked me if I’m starting to fully embrace traditional style and whether we still consider our house to be a “modern Colonial” and why. It was a really great question and so timely — I had really just been thinking about my approach to this home and how my style has changed […]
