I have known two people in my life that used the word “fantastic” really frequently and with a lot of enthusiasm and now, when I say, “fantastic”–it’s more like, “faaannnntassstic!!!!!!” in their voices which is funny to me, but now I think I might be that person to those who hear me. Â Anyway, this post is about a fan. :)
There was nothing wrong with the ceiling fan that was in place in our living room when we bought this house–well, I take that back. Â Actually, the only thing written in the seller disclosures was that the light for the ceiling fan in the living room was not working. Having no overhead light in that room, Chris was anxious to get it working and spent a few hours fiddling with wires and re-coding the frequency of the remote to the van and he actually got it to work! Â The funny thing is–the light was so completely dim, we laughed for a solid 7 minutes when it finally turned on and was mimicked a night light hanging nine feet from the ground–at best.
But, besides that–nothing wrong with the fan. Â It has just never been our style. Â It has also not been a huge priority to replace it, but we have been casually browsing for the past two years for something that would be a good fit for us–and never really pulled the proverbial trigger on anything. Then, three weeks ago, I got an email from Fanimation asking us if we’d be interested in using one of their ceiling fans in our home. Â Now, I’ve gotten emails like this numerous times, but the previous fixtures and/or fans never really felt like our style either. Â So, I casually and unenthusiastically clicked over to Fanimation’s site and was impressed. Â They had a lot (a lot!) of really, really good-looking fans. Â A mecca.
Chris and I both liked the same fan immediately–The Andover (this one was a close second!).
It’s traditional with a modern twist–our style. This is the second fan we replaced in our house (the first was in our bedroom), and we average about 90 minutes from taking down the old fan to having a new one fully installed.
Installation is definitely a two-person job–at least for us. Chris, thankfully knows how to wire so that’s all him, but fans are heavy and it’s good to have an extra person there to help hold it up while the other tightens screws, or someone to read (and re-read) the instructions, hand over tools and get the blades mounted and ready to install–I’m good for those things.
This beauty also came with a remote to adjust the fan to one of three settings and also flick on the light–which we were happy to see was nice and bright.
Obviously I didn’t bother picking up or styling this room before I snapped these pictures, but we have some more updates coming up in here in the next few days that I am excited to show you–and hey! maybe I’ll clean up for those pics.

Ps. Â While Fanimation sent us the fan, we chose it and they didn’t pay us or tell us to write a positive review. Â In fact, they didn’t ask us to review it at all. Â That was all me.
Love it! We really need to get the wiring to have an overhead fan or light in our living room. It’s all table lamps right now.

One time, I got hit in the head with a ceiling fan in Julie Russin’s kitchen, and it left a long bruise on my forehead. Been afraid of ceiling fans ever since :)
The only person I know who uses “fantastic” is Sarah Jessica Parker when she talks about Sex and the City.
