Well.  Here we are.  Talking about eyebrows.  Which is extremely off topic here on the blog, where we prefer to spend our days talking about the kitchen reno or finishing up Greta’s room–but is quite the hot topic on Instagram.  “You have the best eyebrows!” They say.  I am telling you, somewhat embarrassed and awkwardly, “I have a little help.”
1.  Here are my natural eyebrows.  I used to pluck them quite a bit (didn’t we all a decade ago?) but have been letting them grow back to their natural thickness for a good 5 or 6 years, maybe 7?  Truthfully, what year is it?! One day, I just decided–let’s let these babies grow.  And here’s where that got me.
2.  Here’s my secret.  I use an eyebrow pencil–no–more like a marker to get them a little thicker, a little more solid and, most importantly, to balance out my features–I have large facial features.  Big eyes.  A big nose. Good sized lips.  There’s gotta be a balance up top.  Even if you don’t have large features like me, I think a good, thicker eyebrow would look great on you. ;) I swear by Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Brow Color (I use the Medium color–I think they have a blonde, too).

3.  I generally go over natural eyebrows quickly and go a little higher, too, to make them thicker. I also brush lightly near where my brow meets my nose line–or is supposed to; the hairs are a little sparse there. Did you know the wider the brow gap between your nose, the larger your nose will look? I definitely don’t need a bigger-looking nose. The marker is really natural looking.  No crazy, dark lines–which is great, because I have no idea what I’m doing.

4.  Here’s a side by side of one brow done and one not.  Crazy huh?  Both how thicker brows make my eyes pop and this look in general.  Don’t go out like this.  Not recommended.

5.  Here are both brows done. This definitely doesn’t take me longer than 60 seconds.  It’s quick and I think it makes such a difference.

Secret’s out– now you can have “the best brows”, too.  Or maybe you’re still on the thin train. Work it.

Ps.  This post is not sponsored by Stila or anything.  I just wanted to let you all in the brow circle of trust.

    Hi Julia!

Thanks for the tip – I was surprised that you use the medium and not the dark…
It was quite hard to come by in Germany (had to order from the US ($$$) but I have quite some trust in (non sponsored) blogger recommendations so I just went for it.
    That stuff is amazing!

The I-stubble arrived only yesterday (ordered from the UK), I hope it will be a similar success in our household, it looks that way so far…

Well, all this to say thanks and keep up the great work!
    Greetings from Germany

Its so funny, I get compliments on my eyebrows too. I waxed them for years and as I got older they started looking thin and wimpy, thryoid issue. I started using Latisse for eyelashes on my eye brows. They have filled in and Im so happy to have my brows full again.

Im not recommending anyone use Latisse, but I figured if it worked on eyelashes why wouldnt it work on brows and lucky for me it did, pretty fast too. I buy the generic.

THANK YOU FOR THIS POST!!! I just ordered the Stila eyebrow pencil. Just started following your blog (through House Tweaking) and it’s now on my daily “list” of blogs to check out. :)

  4. Jennifer I. says:

Awesome! I have thin brows and a big nose too so these tips are sacred. And you’re beautiful!! Def investing in this bad boy of an eyebrow pencil.

  5. This is really interesting! I’ve been living under a rock on Mars or something for the last 27 years, and I feel like I’m only first starting to figure out the whole makeup thing. Thanks for sharing these eyebrow tips!

  6. Jessie says:

Love it! You are gorg. I’m going to have to pick up one of those pencil/markers and try it out. ps. It was so much fun to finally meet you last night!! I had a blast. How is the wrap working out???

  7. You do have awesome brows! I’ve never used a pencil before, but I can tell you right now I need a wax haha!

  8. Cassie A. says:

Wow!! I would have never guessed you used a pencil. Very natural looking. Are you wearing any other makeup in this photo??? Very fresh-faced!! I love that look!

  10. I just started doing this over Christmas, and it’s awesome. It makes SUCH a huge difference to a face. I’ll have to check out the Stila brand, I currently use a Mac pencil and I went through it in a month.

So Julia, when’s Chris gonna post about ear hair, nose hair and back hair. Give the guys on here some “grooming” love too! :-) You guys are awesome! We are doing the mirror in our downstairs basement (just throwing up some stone tile as a border) and I joked with my wife, “Now, honey, if we were ‘Chris and Julia’, we’d be taking pictures right now.” She laughed, I laughed, we laughed and then she got out the camera. LOL. We’ll let you know how it turns out. Paul Talbot

  12. Rachael says:

This is amazing, thanks for the tip! My brows are so thin. You look gorgeous!

  13. Your brows are awesome. I have pretty natural eyebrows ie I rarely pluck and I never worry about shaping. Does that actually mean I DO need to manage them better and get a professional to help them every now and then? Meh. The brows have never bothered me.

  14. Jennah says:

So your eyebrows naturally have that cool little arch? jealous.
