I have this cough that is no joke right now. It is giving me a serious ab workout and I sound like a barking dog. It’s nuts. And my throat is so raw. But, I kinda think a cough, especially one not accompanied by a runny nose or any other sickly symptoms, is the way to be sick. I don’t feel as guilty about laying down on the couch and playing blocks with Greta with one hand while I work on my abs, I mean cough up a lung. I’m multi-tasking.
Our wood grain Shaker cabinet fronts were designed for busy, high-traffic homes like ours. Clad with durable textured thermofoils, this line is compatible with Sektion, Akurum, Godmorgon, and Besta cabinets from IKEA. It's the perfect, practical way to add the warmth of wood to all the rooms of your home.
We have teamed up with Loloi to create a line of rugs that are as affordable as they are beautiful. This collection houses a great mix of traditional and modern rugs, in cottage-y colorways, as well as vintage-inspired beauties that you’ll want to roll out in every room.
We partnered with Stuga on a line of hardwood floors — The Ingrid is really livable, and the color is very neutral. It doesn’t lean warm or cool, it’s that just right in-between. We have really loved putting it everywhere in our house. It’s the best jumping-off point for design, no matter your interior style. In addition to being beautiful, Ingrid is really durable — we have three kids, and we always have a home construction project going on. Ingrid stands up to it all.

A reader recently asked me if I’m starting to fully embrace traditional style and whether we still consider our house to be a “modern Colonial” and why. It was a really great question and so timely — I had really just been thinking about my approach to this home and how my style has changed […]

Very energetic blog, I enjoyed that bit. Will there be a part 2?
Where do you keep the toys? 2 year olds usually have many large toys like playhouses, dollhouses, and kitchen sets that make it hard to keep every room decorated.
Well, Greta doesn’t have playhouses, dollhouses or kitchen sets–Haha. She does have a few larger toys though. Her scooter is kept in the garage. Her wheely cow actually hangs out in the formal living room next to the couch so she can ride it around on the wood floors. And her train set she just got for Christmas is currently hiding behind the curtains in the family room. But we’re looking for a matching large storage basket like we have in the built-ins (it stores all of her blocks) for the train’s more permanent home. We also keep puzzles and her trucks and lots of other toys in the fauxdenza in the living room. I guess that is what we choose to use the storage in our home for. :)
Gorgeous house Julia! :) So dang immaculate!
The house looks amazing!! And because you posted the link I just watched your first house tour…wooh.
This was so fun!! I always forget about that 5th bedroom! And I kind of forget you have a basement altogether! What a space down there.
Favorites: living room. And that couch still gets to me in the family room. I want to take a nap on it right now.
I love this. Everything flows so well together! And I love the last shot from the staircase where you can see (almost) all of the main level. A very cool house feature! I love video tours because there really is no other way (short of actually being present) to convey the layout of how a house is arranged.
Is the basement just the two rooms? For some reason I thought there was an open space as well, but I could easily be confused
It’s just the two rooms. The house is a split level and, well, there’s no big open space on any level really. I kinda wish!
What a great little vid!! I love what you did with it all…and your house looks fabulous! One day my house will be that clean….
Don’t be deceived. The main reason Chris and Greta were ushered out while I shot this is because the cleanliness doesn’t last five minutes!
LOVE the large painting you did. Large scale art is totally underdone.
Agreed!
Oh my goodness Julia… this tour gives me SO MUCH motivation for when we buy a house. I LOVE the dark gray walls in the living room area. And the bedroom. And the office/guest room…and, all of it!! You have done such an amazing job. I’m somewhat of a new follower so I haven’t seen all of the rooms yet, but I’m about to go look at your before/after photos. *sigh* Now I can’t stop daydreaming about my future house. :)
Been there! We’ve been homeowners for less than two years. Your day will come. :)
I love your style!
Your house looks so good! Loved that song too!
Looks good! What happens to the tiered coffee table – I thought that was so awesome!
It was so awesome that someone offered us more money than we paid for it and it was an offer we couldn’t refuse. So we’ll figure out another solution for a coffee table. :)
I just love you. Your house looks so cozy. I am ready to move in. Love what you’ve done. Nice work, my dear. :)
you are awesome. love the tour. you’re doing solid, beautiful work.
Thank you so much, Jane
I love your home! I love the song! That art piece you made hanging in the dining area is so beautiful! I will need to invest in a piece!
Thanks Kristi! I am working on adding more paintings to the shop soon. Keep your eyes peeled.
What is up with Fiddle Leaf Figs?? I had a beautiful one that now has exactly zero leaves on it and I swear I read and tried every possible care tip. Sigh. I so want another one but don’t want to be scorned again.
We only got ours a week and a half ago. I am totally returning it.
Looking good! (Thought I’m sorry about the plant.) And I love Yael Naim!
Yeah! Yael Naim!!!
