Thanks for excusing me for a few days while I gave my full attention to our little sicky. Truthfully, Greta is still sick with a bad and everlasting case of croup.  I think we are on day 5 or 6 now, and it is just as heart-breaking today as it was the first day and 1000% more exhausting. We are all praying for sleep soon.  On the worst night, Saturday, Greta needed tended to 15 times during the night.  Chris and I did switch off, so I personally only had to get up half of those times, but it meant neither of us were sleeping even an hour at a time and poor Greta was sleeping even less, if at all.
In the midst of all the sickness and exhaustion, the good news is, the pieces we had to order for Greta’s big girl room have started to trickle in and since our Christmas deadline (fingers crossed!) is coming up quick, I’ve never been happier to see a light fixture on our doorstep.  For Greta’s nursery, we “temporarily” hung a lampshade as her fixture until we found something more permanent.

That silly lampshade stayed for a year and a half until this weekend when we installed a real fixture! Finally! Since there are going to be a few statement pieces in the room we were on the lookout for a fixture that was chic, but would also allow the other elements of the room to shine.  And the one we included in the mood board was just that and real affordable. So we pulled the proverbial trigger pretty quick on this one.

It arrived within a week and was easy to install.  The light definitely has a one downside in our book, but its aesthetic isn’t one of them.  No siree!  Here’s how it looks in the disheveled room:
Let me count the ways we love this thing. We love the size.  Greta’s room is pretty small, and this light feels like it fits the room’s proportions pretty perfectly.  We also love the low profile of the fixture.  It’s hard to find a semi-flushmount fixture that is budget friendly and attractive and for us, this one is all of those things.
As for what we wish we could change–the bulbs.  Ugh.  Why? Whyyyyy!! The fixture didn’t come with bulbs and it requires a GU24 base bulb (more of a plug than a traditional screw-in bulb) which is kind of hard to find.  And when you do, your options aren’t very vast and will run you $7-$10 a bulb. The dimmable version of the GU24 bulb (which you can only order online) has terrible reviews.  So we hesitantly uninstalled Greta’s dimmer switch, which we loved, and put a regular switch back in. There was only one kind of GU24 base bulb at Home Depot and unfortunately it wasn’t the “natural daylight” one that I grabbed a pic of online to illustrate what I’m going on and on about:
It was the warmest color.  Meh.  It’s sad that our fixture that we love so much requires bulbs that we aren’t crazy about.  That’s all. Boring bulb talk. Over.  The fixture is still a great big improvement, don’t you agree?  As for what is next? If you follow me on Instagram, you saw the pretty “cub green” fabric (also included on our mood board) arrived over the weekend, so window treatments are on deck and we have made some significant tweaks in those plans that we are eager to share. Woot!
How was your weekend? Is all your Christmas shopping done? We stayed up late last night filling the last of our virtual shopping carts and it feels so good.

and now i’m embarrassed at the amount of spelling errors/ word mix-ups here. That must be what you get used to when you use auto-correct and never re-read anything! hah. Sorry Jules!

We’re putting a coffered ceiling in our living room right night and put 8 new recessed lights in. Yesterday I went shopping for bulbs and I about died! $10 each! They told me when you that the halogen light bulbs usually last over a year. Let’s hope! Love the fixture, the your blog, and love you! Hope you’re having a great Christmas friend!

  3. Eirn {Home Everyday} says:

Love love love this light fixture. It has the same purpose as a boob light for the all over lighting, but so so so much more attractive.

  4. No problem! I have no idea why they would design such a great fixture that requires those bulbs.

  5. Ben says:

Hunh. I actually pinned that light off your other post because we too have a small room with a “temporary” lamp shade up that we want to replace. I think we’re going to pass though because of the bulbs. Thanks for the heads up.
