The "His" Chair is Here

Last week, I mentioned we found a his chair for our her chair in the living room.  A lot of you had fun guessing which one we went with–which seemed to be overwhelming for number 6:

How do I say this? Wah Wahhhhh. Wrong. Most of the chairs in our round-up we were able to try out personally, including 6, and it was tiny.  Especially for Chris.  Also, apparently Chris has something against nail-head trim (my heart nearly stopped), so that nixed 6 and 5.  Ikea’s offerings, 2 and 4, didn’t make the cut either.  Two was actually really comfortable in soft leather, but we weren’t crazy about the legs or the high price tag. We headed over to World Market, sat in 3 and Chris said, “This is it!” And thus ended the search. Chris’s chair arrive on Friday and it is a beaut.
The back is so high and enveloping, but the taller legs still make it feel light and airy.  In fact, it was those taller legs that made number 3 the top of my list. They mimic the legs of our her chair and almost make them look right together:
Did you sense the hesitation in my voice writing there? Color me jealous, but I kinda fell in love with Chris’s chair over the weekend.  It is so comfortable and sophisticated and then I admitted out loud, “I wish I had one.”  I immediately felt bad for the “her” chair because a week ago, she was the star and now, although I still love the chair, she is kind of dragging things down in the rest of the room.  Our color palette is locked into place.  We can’t have other competing loud fabrics.  Will the chair take away from the art we plan to hang? Is it worth it to design an entire room around one chair that I really like but am already questioning after one week?  And this is the weird part.  The above view, I love of looking into the room and the chairs together, but being in the living room and looking out–the chairs don’t mesh well for me.  Can’t put my finger on why.

Looking out–not so good.

Looking in–I can live with. I guess I’m saying, if we happened to get another his chair for me, I wouldn’t complain. :) Also, I may have put the Ikat chair up for sale this morning just to test out the waters.

It’s that good. We’ll keep you posted, as always. I really need to get a shot of Chris in this chair so you can see how tall the back really is. What did you do this weekend?! Any other chair-coveters in our midst?

  1. I love this chair! I just wish we had a World Market by us. My husband is 6ft 7inches tall and has yet to find a comfortable chair. I’m wondering if I should buy this online…

    • Leila,

I could go on and on about this–but I’ll make it brief. About two weeks after we got that chair, we wanted another one and were going to move my chair into a different room. They were sold out. I called our local store who redirected me to corporate who redirected me to online sales and no one could tell me when they were going to be back in stock. One guy told me mid-December, but sitting here in January we know that wasn’t true. Luckily for us, we kind of love our duo of chairs but I still check every once in a while to see if they are getting it back in. They do have one in wheat. And it is on mega sale. http://www.worldmarket.com/product/wheat-triton-high-back-chair.do?page=2&from=fn

      Wish I could help more!

  2. I brought them closer together–I’ll have to share an updated photo. I think you’re right, though. The major disconnect is the vast difference in heights.

  3. Maybe it is just especially welcoming to us because we’re both tall (6ft and 6 ft 4 inches). Nothing feels better than having your whole back/neck supported.
