Our area rug poll has crowned a victor!  Roadside Attraction got the most votes and will be hanging out in the studio with me.  I was originally pulling for the Sophistikat option, but in the end–I feel good about the great texture of the Roadside Attraction carpet tiles and can’t wait for them to get here. Here’s how the 363 votes divided up here.

It was close, close, clooosseee.  As I watched the gap between the top two choices narrow, I also kept an eye on the number of you demanding more choices.  Eighteen! While I couldn’t go back and add more area rugs in after the voting already started, I did listen and I doubled your lighting options.  Six lights to choose from today and only one will hang in the studio.  This one has got to go:

Well, really, it has already gone.  Once we painted the ceiling, we put the old fixture in our growing pile of garbage/donate/sell and immediately started the search for a new one.  Shades Of Light spoke up and wanted to get in on the voting action and offered to outfit the room with a light that will hang right over my desk. Thrilled (and a little overwhelmed with all the choices), I started gathering my favorites here and today have narrowed it down to the top six for you to vote on.

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6

This time around, I am truly stumped–so I can’t wait to see which you all vote to be our winner.

Lighting is key and the only key for the studio is…

What do you think?

  1. I also love 5 and 6 but 4 is by far my favorite!

Since the eye is already going to be up with that awesome painted ceiling… a drum light fixture just wasn’t doing it for me, so I picked Silver Steel Circles. Supernova was a close second.. but I wasn’t loving more white.

Although the other commenters post about having a light that would transition into a nursery makes a valid point… but I still think SSC would be a great statement maker.. like all those cool nurseries I see on Pinterest

Just a random question…how tall are your ceilings? Do you have room for the larger hanging lights? Us 6′ tall woman need to stick together and I don’t want you having to duck in your own studio! :)

  4. Valid points, and I’ve thought about each of them during while narrowing it down. The room gets so much natural light, I’m not even worried. As far as evenings, I’ve painted in our dining room before this and the bulb is practically bare there–and I’ve never been bothered by it. Different strokes for different folks, I suppose. Can’t wait to see where we end up!

  5. You’re 6 ft, too?! Sisters unite! Our ceilings are standard 8ft, but the light will be over my desk.

  6. O come on! CHAMPAGNE SUPERNOVA people!

Interesting picks! And so different too! I liked #5 because it was modern but also timeless. You could keep it in there as a structured nursery light fixture. Love all the choices! I’m so curious how the peeps will vote!!!

  8. I like your endorsement. Very convincing! :)

  9. I respect that! Let it stew. Let it stew. I’ve been thinking about these for a week and a half and I don’t even know which one I am rooting for. Hahaha.

Wow. There are so many good choices. The two that caught my attention and really stood out were the Supernova & the Silver Steel Circles Sphere. However, with a colored ceiling, I feel like the room needs a white light to really lighten things up and add a ‘pop’- you know. But is the Supernova a little much? Maybe. So I’m not voting. YET. I have to stew for a bit. This is serious stuff, your room. :)

  11. Love your thoughts Katherine. The steel circles one is quickly becoming my favorite!

  12. LauraPriest says:

I actually strongly dislike sphere and coil armed ones. Love the way they look, but for the purpose of the room, I wouldn’t pick them. I know that, at least for me, when I paint or work on a project, I don’t like having a light bulb shining straight on my work. Especially for taking pictures of the completed project. A naked light will cause a shine on a lot of mediums, so I voted for one the of the shades that mutes the light bulb a bit.
Different artists have different opinions and preferences, but that’s just what I would go for, since this is going to be an art studio. Look forward to seeing what ends up winning!
