And after two coats of Hummingbird Blue:
Although the ceiling looks a little shiny in the photo above, it is just the sun blaring through the windows. We went with flat paint which is recommended for ceilings and had it color-matched to Glidden since Martha’s paint isn’t sold anymore. The color is just as 111 of you hoped it would be. It’s a soft, but energizing greenish-blue.
Since the smoke detector in this room followed suit with every other appliance previously existing in our house–sporting an almond-beige color–I researched whether I could safely paint it so it wouldn’t stick out like a sore thumb (errr…ugly almond detector). Turns out, a coat of primer and paint is completely safe for smoke detectors—and thermostats….and doorbells. All of which we have painted in our home. :)
While we obviously can’t wait for you all to vote on our new light fixture, we are still narrowing down your options (get a sneak peak here), we are excited to get the flooring done now that the painting is out of the way. I don’t think anyone would argue the new aqua ceiling is making the old maroon carpet look even worse:
So while we’re hunting down the perfect wood laminate to lay, we’re leaving the final area rug choice completely up to you. We’ve been working with our friends at FLOR (who are just as excited as you to be involved) over the last week to narrow their huge selection down to a few options that would look best in the studio. The end product will be a 7’x7′ area rug that will cover a nice chunk of the floor. With such a bold ceiling, we ended up on more neutral FLOR tiles. Here are your choices:

Update: It has been brought to my attention, that #1 looks a little different in this alternate photo on FLOR’s website. Of course it all depends on lighting, but the colors are accurately less yellow-golden than they appear in the first option:
Three amazing choices–Chris and I both have favorites this time, but we can’t wait to see which one you love the most, because that is ultimately the one landing in the studio. Eeee! Promise you won’t pick one by its name alone (I know, it’s hard) and vote now:

Oh no! I am not sure shabby chic is my thing.
The painted ceiling is SO FABULOUS!!!
I voted for FLOR & 2. I just love the combo of teal, white, and gray (as evidenced by lots of my own home decor choices).
While I’m actually partial to #1, I voted for #3 because I think it will compete less with the bold ceiling
I noticed that, too. It’s more of a light tan.
