After painting the walls, ceiling, and floor of the studio–and living with it all for a week or so, it all started to feel a little sterile.  I waited anxiously for the floor to cure up so that I could hang some curtains and lay our flooring.

Don’t get me wrong, I’d take sterile over the before photo any day.  Because seriously:

Yesterday, before we went our separate ways for a week, Chris helped me hang the curtains and lay the FLOR tiles and look at her now:

We got the extra long curtain rod at Ikea for $5 and picked up the curtain clips there, too.  So hanging the two tapestries from Urban Outfitters that you all voted on was a breeze.  I actually didn’t even hem them because I don’t mind a little pooling at the bottom.  By making the curtains extend the entire length of the wall, as as high as we could–it really makes the room look a lot larger–not to mention, it let’s the curtains be the look-at-me textile they are.

When it came time to lay the FLOR tiles, I found the center of the room and laid my first square right there–making sure it wasn’t crooked at all.  Then I started building out until I had a plus sign (this area rug is designed to be square) to make sure I liked where the ends landed.  After a few tweaks the the right a half inch (really) I filled in the rest of the carpet.

I rotated the squares to make a sa-weet design.  Zig-zags, diamonds, large-squarish-tunnels.  I’m a fan of the neutral color and surprise designs when you look a little closer and longer.

Next up, I suppose we should get some furniture in here, don’t ya think?  Guess I better dig my desk out of the garage.

Before you skip away, let’s take a look at a before and currently and admire all of the amazing decisions you have made:

Look at how awesome you have pulled this off so far!  Give yourself a pat on the back.  Best reader-designers, ever.  I tell ya. We’re still waiting for the new fixture to come in and we do have one more thing for you to vote on later this week, so don’t take off your hats just yet!

Packing in the kind of technology isabel marant sneaker McQuivey mentions — things like a touch screen, Webcam, microphones, and the Baskets Isabel Marant guts of an iOS device — certainly would not come cheap. For a very non-scientific comparison, isabel marant boots Microsoft’s second-generation Surface isabel marant online device, which is comprised of a 40-inch TV with a touch screen that’s been optically-bonded to a piece of Corning’s Gorilla Glass, retails for about. Yes, that’s not remotely fair considering it’s got some additional high-tech optical sensor technology, Isabel Marant shoes and has a built-in PC running Windows, but you get the point: costs can skyrocket the more you try to cram in there.

McQuivey prefaced his notion by saying celine outlet shop Apple really needs to do something different to capture celine bag consumer attention in a market where people update their technology less often. That’s as opposed Celine Luggage Tote to iPhones, which have become Apple’s biggest money-maker Celine Boston Bag due in no small part to their shorter lifecycle among buyers who get them as a Celine Luggage bags discount when signing two-year phone contracts.

I am IN LOVE with the floor! We have been trying to figure out what to do with the floor in a couple of our spare rooms and I think we may be borrowing this idea. It looks awesome! :)

  15. Hannah says:

So I’m usually content to be a silent blog-stalker but I just had to chime in to say that I never ever ever in a million years would have picked those curtains and paired them with the teal (?) ceiling… but holy wow! It’s looks amazing! I’m totally inspired to find some awesome, slightly-crazy fabric for my own home now. :-)

  16. Jessie McKinley says:

Love it all!!! That rug is amazing too! I may have to order me some of those FLOR tiles, they seem awesome!

  17. Those curtains are singing a sweet sweet tune, i love that it matches the ceiling..not your typical wall

  18. meaganbriggs3 says:

The color of those curtains are ah-mazing. It really is hard to believe how much they will transform the room before you put them up, and I love them even more. That design may be a bit too mature for Brinley’s big girl room, but I am definitely going to look at Urban for different designs. But tell me, how much do they block out the sun light? Black out curtains are expensive, and from what I’ve heard, can give off a pretty nasty stink because of the sun exposure.

  19. Christie says:

The tapestry curtains are AMAZEBALLS! Our home is too neutral to go with something that bold but I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!!!!! Congrats on the great progress! :-)

  20. mom says:

this is amazing! love it! mom

  21. Erin says:

Whoa, those curtains! Hello, gorgeous!! They work so well with the walls and the ceiling. Can’t wait to see the room all filled in.

  22. It looks so great! Those curtains are absolutely awesome, they make the room!

  23. Vidyasnair says:

Came here from YHL. Those curtains are gorgeous. My instinct is to stay away from bold patterns. It is folks like you that are inspiring me to try these. :)

  24. This might be wierd, but could you hang one of the tapestries upside-down? That way the pattern wouldn’t look as repeating…but I can’t tell if there is an obvious right and wrong side. Anyway, it looks incredible. I’m lusting after those tapestries…

A reader recently asked me if I’m starting to fully embrace traditional style and whether we still consider our house to be a “modern Colonial” and why. It was a really great question and so timely — I had really just been thinking about my approach to this home and how my style has changed […]
