Originally, I slapped some paint on the taller-than-I-am-canvas for the dining room in colors that I knew I wanted to use and it stayed that way for months. Over the holiday, I finally decided to finish it. ---I got a little carried away in the meantime.
It was a fun couple hours and I ended up about where I wanted to be:

Very nice, love the colors!
ReplyDeleteI love this. I would love to make something like this to match my dining room. I've pinned the one in your etsy shop so I won't forget. Great job!
ReplyDeleteWhat kind of brushes do u use?
ReplyDeleteEach artist has their own favorite type of brushes. I personally like something a little stiffer. So I use over-sized oil-painting brushes. Very similar to a paint brush you would use for a wall, just a little stiffer.
ReplyDeleteLove the end result. I am inspired for this weekend...Thank you
ReplyDeleteOk pleeeease share how you pop those images on top of each other like a mini animation, thats eye catchin' right 'er
ReplyDeleteJust google around for a GIF maker. Free. Super easy.
ReplyDeleteWow! This is stunning! I love it!
ReplyDeleteVery cool! I love the colour palette and the design feels very "ikat" like. Great job!
ReplyDeleteYou are absolutely ridiculous. Your skills amaze me everyyyyyyyyyyyyyy time I see something you've busted out in just a few short hours. Holy cow. I tots agree, it is very "ikat" feel. Which I love and wish I could pull off!
ReplyDeleteHahahaha. A series of ten paintings THAT size? You would need a warehouse to display.
ReplyDeleteYou're such a jerk. This could be a whole SERIES. I want EACH of those paintings. I'm so mad at you for painting over them!
ReplyDeleteThanks. Definitely Ikat inspired. :)
ReplyDeleteGirl, you'd pull it off with ease. Every time I choose a fabric (for curtains, or a rug) that is Ikat--Chris said it looks too "Jacksonhole." Hahaha. Luckily, he likes the painting.
ReplyDeleteHow did you paint the pattern? I've been looking for a tutorial for ages!! Email me at thebrunetteone@live.com! This is amazing!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Samantha. There is no pattern, or tutorial. Sorry. I just...did it. I painted until I liked what I was seeing. I know that might sound frustrating. Sorry!
ReplyDeletei just saw this on pinterest, and i love it! i had to come over here and tell-i couldn't just pin it and run!
ReplyDeleteCame over from pinterest and so disappointed that there's no tutorial. This would look awesome in my dining room. What size is the canvas and where did you get one that large? What kind of paint did you use?
ReplyDeleteSorry to disappoint! The canvas is probably 8ft tall and 5 ft wide. Chris bought me a huge roll of canvas from DickBlick last Mother's Day. We made the frame ourselves and stretched the canvas over it and secured the edges on the back with a staple gun. A painting this large, I use house paint! I am a big fan of picking up the mistinted tester pots (they are always marked down to 50 cents) whenever I see them. I also used a lot of the colors we have on walls around the house to really tie it in. Hope it helps!
ReplyDeleteVery nice, love the colors!
ReplyDeleteAw, thanks! So thoughtful of you.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! Now I want to paint :)
