Befores, afters, mood boards, plans, failures, wins. We’ve done a lot of projects, and they’re all here.

We have a long-standing relationship with DIY, and love rolling our sleeves up and making it happen.

Even when you don’t want to rip down a wall, you can make that space in your home better. Right now.

Greta and I just got home and it feels good.  Actually, it feels a little muggy because the air hasn’t been on for days, but just knowing we made it home safely is a good feeling.  Greta is already tearing into things as if she is discovering our house for the first time all over again.  And even though Greta’s shirt says, “What happens at Grandma’s, stays at Grandma’s” I thought I’d share a few highlights.
We spent all day, every day with family.  We had dinner with the Marcums and hot tub time at my
‘rents.  I cut a lot of hair.  3 heads to be exact.  My mom’s, my dad’s and my sister, Patty’s–which is the only one I took a before and after of.  I didn’t go to hair school or anything, I just own haircutting scissors and have put them to use a lot over the years.  Practice makes perfect for a fun hobby.

I tracked down two more pieces of my art at Patty’s house:
A watercolor I did from a photo she took on a trip to Venice.  I gave it to her for her birthday.

Patty and her husband, Ken, fell in love with a Bobbie Burger painting and commissioned me to do this oversized oil inspired by the original for their kitchen.
Greta got in lots of cousin time, which was just what she (and I) needed.  She had a blast with them.

And of course cousin time wouldn’t be complete without a dance party.  Greta wasn’t shy about taking the spotlight there:

Overall, it was a great trip to pass some of the time away from Chris.  And once this week is over, his busy-butt will slow down and we can spend some time together.  For now, I have a few projects to wrap up and share ASAP….including finding out what to do with this prank “gift” left hanging from our carport:

Ah, nothing quite says welcome home like a busted up, hanging bumper.  At least it wasn’t our bumper.

What do you think?

HAHAHA!!! Someone is VERY creative with that bumper:)

  2. Julia says:

Erica’s bumper story checks out. And we now know who the pranksters are. Ahem, Brandon and Stephanie. Aka–the same culprits of the post “Cards Gone Wild” They are good. They are VERY good.

  3. Patty says:

Wait… is that bumper story real? Those Marcum’s can be a sneaky bunch… are they sneaky at playing pranks or sneaky at making up stories. How do you know who to believe?

  4. Steph says:

HAHAHA!!! Someone is VERY creative with that bumper:)

  5. Meagan says:

Um, you cut hair???????????? Why didn’t I know this when you came to visit me????

Trips home are the BEST!!!! So glad you had fun. Your sissy looks SO hot-mom with her new bob. There is just something so magical with a complete new doo.

    Love the videos of Greta!!!

  6. I’ll elaborate, Patty. That was me. While Mom and Dad were on their cruise a few weeks ago, they asked me to keep their car (and they told me I could drive it ALL I wanted…mistake probably). Long story short, I backed out of a neighbor’s driveway but not without a fire hydrant jumping out and grabbing their front bumper, tearing it halfway to the ground. I did get it fixed…a shiny new bumper before they got home. So, I thought it would be funny to tie up the old one and put it in the trunk. As a joke (it took a good 30 minutes for my dad to see the humor, mostly because they were both worried about my stress through it all). Anyway, they passed it on. And seems that whomever they passed it on to, has passed it on to Julia and Chris. Nice move, by the way…hanging it from the carport.

So, there you go. It’s the new bowling ball. Jules can elaborate on that.

Love you – glad you’re home safe and sound. Ran into Chris at Pie last night…sure he told you. Very funny coincidence.

  7. Julia says:

    Patty,

Wish I could elaborate. We don’t know where it came from or who did it. But it was hanging from our carport just like this when we got home. We are thinking it came from a bunch of bored teenagers.

  8. Patty says:

    Uhhhh. elaborate on the bumper.

A reader recently asked me if I’m starting to fully embrace traditional style and whether we still consider our house to be a “modern Colonial” and why. It was a really great question and so timely — I had really just been thinking about my approach to this home and how my style has changed […]
