1. Surprisingly it’s not that most pants are capris on me. At least not this time. I am 6′ tall and the fact that these skinny cargos are more like super-crops or capris on me is okay for the summer. I’m also not complaining that they were on mega sale, either. Originally $89.50, when I snatched these off the sales rack, the tag said $16.99. Booyah!…except for me, they were $20. Bugs. You see, Chris and I use our Gap credit card to pay a lot of our bills and to purchase big ticket items. We pay it all off right away and still reap the Gap rewards–being $10 to Gap/BR/Old Navy for every $1000 you put on your Gap card. Every month we get our reward gift cards in the mail and that takes care of any clothing we want/need….want. What bugs is although these pants were $16.99, I had to fork over my entire $20 gift voucher–or spend more money. They wouldn’t give me change or let me take the extra $3 to Gap and get a hat for Greta or some socks for Chris. So, I cut my losses (because what is $3 at BR?!) and chalked it up to saving $70—but still. Bugs.
2. Last night after Greta went to bed and we were cleaning up the kitchen and dreaming of new cabinets and appliances and a new layout (we have BIG plans for the kitchen), we noticed that our dishwasher wasn’t draining. Ironically, it was right after we decided to save our pennies to buy a luxe new french door fridge with Chris’s upcoming bonus. Bummer, the dishwasher is still full of water, even after my “don’t break on us now, baby” pep talk.
3. Chevron stripes in home decor. Eeeeks. I know I just offended a handful of people. Sorry. It’s not that I think it looks bad–because I have seen it look super chic–It’s more that it is so. over. done. They are everywhere right now, and sadly, I think people are putting them places just to be on trend. I’m over it. They officially bug now.
4. How people get so excited to be the first to comment on facebook and blog threads–their comment is “first!” That’s what you had to say? It’s so awesome when the first five people write it (or variations i.e. 1st! number 1! I’m first! Winner!) as well and then they all look so….pathetic. Why? Why do you feel the need to proclaim that you are the first to comment? We all see that you are first. And you don’t get a prize. If you are going to comment, make it relevant and thought out…even if it makes you second.
5. I still compare almost every action/thinker movie to Inception, which makes movie night not so enjoyable. I think I should probably get a grip and come to terms with the fact that not every movie has to have such a deep plot. But when I watch movies like “The Tourist” on Tuesday night and walk away thinking, “Wow, lame” it’s really just because it only had 2 storylines instead of 5 and the twist at the end was expected and it didn’t blow my mind like Inception. How can I get over this? Netflix better movies I guess. (For instance, we watched Catfish a couple weeks ago and we still talk about it.)
6. Date night tonight at Pizzeria 712 and then browsing countertops and a movie and snuggling. Oh wait, that’s the thing that definitely doesn’t bug. Happy Friday.
Our wood grain Shaker cabinet fronts were designed for busy, high-traffic homes like ours. Clad with durable textured thermofoils, this line is compatible with Sektion, Akurum, Godmorgon, and Besta cabinets from IKEA. It's the perfect, practical way to add the warmth of wood to all the rooms of your home.
We have teamed up with Loloi to create a line of rugs that are as affordable as they are beautiful. This collection houses a great mix of traditional and modern rugs, in cottage-y colorways, as well as vintage-inspired beauties that you’ll want to roll out in every room.
We partnered with Stuga on a line of hardwood floors — The Ingrid is really livable, and the color is very neutral. It doesn’t lean warm or cool, it’s that just right in-between. We have really loved putting it everywhere in our house. It’s the best jumping-off point for design, no matter your interior style. In addition to being beautiful, Ingrid is really durable — we have three kids, and we always have a home construction project going on. Ingrid stands up to it all.

A reader recently asked me if I’m starting to fully embrace traditional style and whether we still consider our house to be a “modern Colonial” and why. It was a really great question and so timely — I had really just been thinking about my approach to this home and how my style has changed […]

Oooo! Thanks, I love a good recommendation. :)
I know this is an old post but I just thought I’d throw this out anyways…. Watch “lucky number slevin” if you haven’t already. I watched it 5 or 6 years ago and still compare everything to it, although Inception stood up pretty well.
So wait. According to your numbers you spent $2,000 at those stores to get a $20 gift voucher. Hopefully I’m not the first to point this out, but you’re getting ripped off.
The OTHER Mr. and Mrs. Marcum-
That would be SUCH a rip off. I’m pretty sure you are just being facetious, but just in case you aren’t–NO WAY! In fact, we spend next to nothing at those stores. We just pay all of our bills with our Gap card and also pay for big ticket items for our home renos and then pay off the card right away and STILL get the rewards. It’s pretty nice.

haha yeah, chevron stripes are a leetle bit overdone. much. meh, they’re not my favorite either. and i’m still waiting to see inception, i don’t know what’s holding me back, maybe i’ll watch it tomorrow night or something. PLUS i wanna watch the other one you mentioned cuz i’m a sucker for people liking things. is that weird? ah well. who cares. AND your red door looks amazing. serious. Also: i avoid being the first commenter. it makes me feel overzealous but sometimes i do it anyway.
Celeste-
Thanks so much. So glad you found us. Make yourself comfortable. :)

Just found your blog, clicked around a little bit, and I already love it! Great design style! You have a new follower. :)
FIRST!!!!!!!!
Dang it….did I miss it??
HA! Just kidding….
BTW, this was soooo thought out!
You’ll never get over Inception. It’s just that good.
For your dishwasher- run it again. Mine sometimes doesn’t drain and then I run it on a short cycle and it clears itself up. (Also check the bottom. There’s a filter and sometimes weird stuff (from the garbage disposal) ends up in there.
Finally, what are Chevron stripes?
Meags,
I fell asleep the first time–obvy. Hahahaha. But the second time blew me outta the water! And you’re right about a Greta video. She needs to make another appearance. Here’s hoping for a fun weekend to capture just that.
-Jules
I love how your blog has become your journey decoration and reno-ing your home. BUT I also love the true Julia humor and personality come out in these posts. AND I think we need a new Greta vid.
Okay. The blog thing made me laugh. And the Chevron stripes??? I thought they were GORGEOUS like…last year, but not sure what blog, but she got a new bedspread and it’s like CHEVRON STIPESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS. Whoa. I’m dizzy looking at that bedspread.
bummer about the dishwasher!!!!! And I still need to give Inception a second try cause pretty sure I blogged the whole time and at the end Ryan was like THAT WAS AWESOME!!! And for you to love a movie without falling asleep…I mean come on, must watch it again!!!
